This is a commission for Eric Hinkle, an acrylic painting on 9 X 12 Bristol paper. 'Ardashir looks on in amazement as the lady jackal dances before him, waving her tail sock beneath his nose!' I love research, and this required a lot of it. Persian, Scythian, nomadic tribes of mountainous regions of Iran. The rug designs are based on tribal Persian rug-making...Zanjan and Shahsavan, of the North and Northwest. The aged carved-wood frame, however, was based on a carved wooden horse bit found in a grave in the Russian Steppes... a little out-of-region, but still blended nicely. Can you tell I had *entirely too much enjoyment with it? Definitely not cost-effective, but who cares...I learned a lot, and had fun! ;o)

Anything with that much research is worthy of praise.

The wood border is amazing. It looks so real. But somehow it makes everything else look more cartoony.

I like that you've done researches for creating this art, and I'm grateful for not seeing the "middle-eastern high-fantasy" stereotypes, which I find a mix of Indian, Persian, Turkic and Arabic all with flashy exaggerated features (even many educated artists/authors confuse them or define all of them as Arabic, which never fails to surprise me 2).
The landscape reminds me of summer in not-very-humid mountainsides of certain regions I've visited in Iran. The dress of Ardashir (we'd pronounce it Ardeshir) is identical to the traditional outfits... the Lady Jackal's trousers and top is less characteristic, but it's still nice and fitting for the dancing furry. I also love the rugs and cushions and the border. It's totally a wonderful job, congratulations 2
