You're still the best watercolor artist that I've seen in Elfwood yet. There's one thing in every single one of your pics that strikes mư eye, and its the skies. I mean, you'd think that thats simple to make but they just look so damn good. With pencils i have no idea how to get a feel like that to the sky, although I'd like to. But this is really damn good. Ainiin...I have an update2

:-) Janne Vuollet replies: "Hummm, well this pic is made with three different medias. Watercolors, watercolorpencils and oilpastels. The sky is oilpastels, there is no way you can make such solid sky with pencils. At least I don't know of such a way. And pencil kinda only has one color anyways... But great that you like it."

Oh my god! She has a skull on her dress!! O_o *shivers* I thought I commented this picture for a long time ago, but no.. My memory isn't as good as it used to be.. Maybe it is because of The way of the Sheep. 12 You know, some day I'll come to your door and ask you to design me a dress! And yes, you are getting better and better with those details. Love your backgrounds. 2

:-) Janne Vuollet replies: "Y'know, there is two skulls there! Though the other one ain't on the dress. It's just a little trinket she has. And I'm not too sure if it shows well in this elfwood version... She is a spooky lady O_o If you someday come and wish me to design a dress, I'd be following the foot steps of one of my idols! Yoshitaka Amano. He makes quite wild desings... Thanks for commenting this 12 (brr it's cold again!)"

I love the feeling of the space around the figure. It rather reminds me of the legends about how the 'otherworld' looks...And feels.

I dont know what the hell you were thinking when you drew this..DAMN its crap.
19 Aug 2003:-) Jason Ellis
Don't get excited, Jam, because an artist of Janne's skill wouldn't want to draw you; though if you want a portrait of yourself, I can draw crap pretty well.

I likes the black rose; a very nice touch

Colored pencils and... watercolor? Your shading is again so very very smooth. Really good control you have over it. And the black in the color is very deep. How did you do it? Is it paint or pencil? The moon is extremely well-done. Her hair, while it doesn't feel flat or dead could perhaps be done a little controlled. But then again, I'm always the one who's running around looking like her hair's an entity of its own, so perhaps I'm probably not the best advice-giver on this matter.

:-) Janne Vuollet replies: "Yeah, + oilpastels. I used them to make the sky and the moon. The black is just plain black watercolor. You might be right about the hair. I've never been quite good at drawing hair anyways. Gotta add that to my "practise this!" list 9 You don't have to be able to give advise. But it's good that you pointed that out."

Hmm, very nice combination of colours you got in this picture. You've definitely hit some kind of artistic bulls-eye with the colouring. Otherwise, the picture is well-composed , but could do with better shading (the legs) and better anatomy (arms & hands).

But altogether the image is very good. 2

the small things always count just like in your other picture of the dragon with the cute little spider. Her you have added the little human head at the and of here scarf.
that just makes it completed.1

I thought I'd comment this one..
Hmm, lets see. Her face is pretty, but it looks kinda flat, don't you think? Like she's run into a wall. Like a bulldog, without the saggy cheeks. Almost two-dimensional (I know it's just a painting, but you know what I mean). And the way she sits. Like floating on air. Very dreamy. Very blue. Her skin's so pale and flawless. And for contrast, the black rose with a blue straw (is it 'straw'?).
Noticed the Jimi Skullhead at the end of her scarf and, dunno why, but it looks like the torn end of her skirt also has the shape of skull, see. Holes for eyes, nose and mouth. Perhaps not intentional. I like all those golden figures on the black dress. Just a thought, but is she a queen? I've never read the Ellis' story
I can't possibly imagine what those tangly things at the down right corner are. Like mist or sumttin. Starting climb up her leg. She appears to be looking at it. Anyhow, I like it and I also like the background. Very impressive fades you've done. From purple to white and from white to pink. So smooth. Nice.
The architecture (e.g. the buildings in the back) however, are quite strange. If those really are castles of some sort, how can anyone live there? And is that some-kind of a glass globe on that tower there behind her back? The tower seems a little crooked, as well as the balcony whatever she's sitting on. But despite those little things, I'd give this one, 7 points.
Not that it matters what I do.

:-) Janne Vuollet replies: "Yeah, they are skulls. Even the one in the dress. You think I'd do somehthing like that unintentionally? Well, I can't remmember just now if I wrote it to the picture description, that she is the goddes of death. Literally. So that explains alot about the floating and all that eerie stuff. And the backround, yes, they are towers. And this goddes lives in one of them, the other towers are inhabited by other gods (Arkaron,of whom I have also made a picture, is one of them too). If I remmember correctly there were twelve gods and towers all in all. And I wanted to make the towers look quite odd. The one with the glass globe wasn't very succesful. And some of the oters are quite boring too.Now and the proportions on the goddes are a bit messed up but really, I don't know the anatomy of gods that well. But now I gotta go... go go!"
