Prismacolor pencils are excellent for blending colours and I recommend them, though they are a bit expensive, and the colourless blender pencil doesn't really work for me. I suggest several layers of colour burnished with a white or light coloured pencil. As for this picture, I agree it would be better in a smaller size. I love the atmosphere, and you really captured a moving ocean perfectly in the chaotic colouring. Nice work.the ocean is one of my favorite parts of this pic too...as for the pencils, can you believe that I did use prismacolor on this?

If you want to blend, sometimes (Depends on what kind of paper you're using) you can just rub your finger over it. Sometimes you can use lotion or water to help blend. Oh, and it's McCaffrey. Ann McCaffrey wrote the Pern books. =) I'd know, she's one of my favourite authors! ^_^ Great drawings.

Oh and I don't use colored pencils myself but my brother said a good way to smooth them is with a rubber, you know one of the cheep plasticy ones you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy?
