I’ve been working on and off on this for over a month now. The reason I used so long on is because I re-painted it a billion times before I got it right, especially Hyssop. I could never get the colours or shadows right and a few days before the deadline it came to me; why not change the background? Entirely? So I changed the colour scheme from purple and pink to various hues of blue.

This piece is some kind of milestone for me. Not because of outstanding anatomy or composition (which I know kind of sucks) and not because of originality or exciting subject matter, but because I actually like this. I don’t know if it’s my style simply because I don’t have one, but I don’t get this foul taste in my mouth whenever I look at this.

So this was a trade with dimespin. She’s one of my favourite artists out there and I was thrilled when she asked me if I wanted to trade some art. Firstly, her style is just awesome; I can go through her gallery a million times and it’s still impossible for me to get tired of her art. Secondly, her ideas and characters are intriguing as hell. I got to choose one of her characters to draw and I’ve always (since I saw him for the first time anyway) wanted to draw a picture of Hyssop. He’s just one adorable, insane guy and I love his design.

In this picture he seems to be stuck in some kind of bizarre, melting blue world with bubbles aimlessly floating around in the air. For some reason foetuses of different species and sizes are trapped within some of these bubbles. Hyssop is currently studying a tiny little bubble with a long tailed creature in it, wondering what kind of animal that might turn out to be.
