This peice explores the idea of self-worth. The gargoyle and vines represent the things you may be told about yourself that aren't true, or keep you from fully forming your own ideas of yourself and your self worth. The character is breaking away from what she always believed herself to be, and is ready to leap off this confining tower.

I love it! I like the colour contrasts between what is and what is becoming and I like the image of the gargoyle, set in stone, representing out negative images.

Hmm The charactor here looks almost photographic while the rest looks painted really draws your eye right to the charactor. Oddly I like the green blending around the level of the gargoyles feet. And yes I agree Nice model *grin*

Very good color scheme . All of the earth tones , from light to dark . Great job on the female figure , and great model * who did you say it was * ( just kidding ) You did a very nice job withithe piece . Her ( or should I say your ) hands seem to blur up a bit much , but I like the blur in the background . It leeds the eye to the center of the piece .

Thanks everyone! (you're all too kind!) I, too, wish the scan was better, the fine details really do get lost. It's hard to see that she's actually breaking out of the back of the gargoyle, (you can't really see the cracks or the peices that have fallen off), but at least the emotion comes across!

I really enjoyed your site....Annette Ting says hello, and we finally found the right gallery site. She loves the woman with the red eyes... I love this pic. It just speaks of pure earthiness....

I really like this piece symbolically...ah, the liberation of a soul. (: I'm assuming that the woman's legs are bent at the knees in a jump? Or not, I don't suppose it matters too much... it's still a great pic. The figure is very well proportioned... congrats.

excellent concept! If you wanted to enhance the "break out" feeling you might add chunks of rock "exploding" off the gargoyle, around the girl. This also would help clarify that she is emerging, not that her body is lost in the tangle of greens.

I can't believe I missed this evocative story-in-a-panel, all these years. I'll be asking about a larger (sharper, perhaps?) version and about sharing this with my Pteraphiles Yahoo! Group (see my homepage link on my Wyvern's page) in e-mail. For now, I'll just enjoy its vigorous life. And, yes, I see her leaping skyward out of joy, with bended knees that are hidden in the back.
