| 23 Oct 2008 | Donna Quinn | Loading...Very cute and well-drawn. I’ve seen the photo you used as reference before in a cat book at the library, which I admit does detract from my enjoyment of the piece. Maybe you could create original poses by studying a range of potential reference images?
The peachy background tone of this image works really well!
| 23 Oct 2008 | Kathleen Hardy | Loading...I do use multiple reference photos for my work. This particular photo didn’t come from a library book, it was a photo from a zoo, among other things, (which might have ended up in a book you saw somewhere), but most of my work ends up from so many different references my studio looks like Frankenstein’s lab! I do LOTS of research and have been gathering reference photos for years (a lot of which I take myself when I can), then compose all the little pieces together.
Half the fun for me is choosing what color paper to do the drawing on and what type of butterfly wings go best with whatever my main creature is and it’s surroundings. that’s why the snow leopard is on a blue-grey paper with black and white spotted wings. The black panther is on black with Owl Butterfly wings, etc.

| 22 Nov 2008 | Jeanette M Thomas | Loading...Love the Ocelot. The expression on his face makes me chuckle. Looks like he is looking at his beautiful butterfly wings and thinking what on earth are these things? Wish I had the original picture of the ocelot sans wings. I love the small big cats. | |
| 3 Mar 2009 | Tammy Marie Guile | Loading...I LOVE your work. I saw some pieces from your butterfly cat series at SheVaCon this past weekend. I was going to bid on this one, but didn’t have enough money with me. If you come back next year I’ll definitely try to have money put aside. | |
