This is the first coloured pencil piece I've done since Nimi. And for the first time in years I had fun coloring. YAAAY!!!
Chi and Na are the oldest of 'the dragon and the rider' -series.
Marker and coloured pencils, August 2002.

These fiery colours... You know, they remind me of a China culture festival that was here, in Moscow, long years ago when I was just a child. Excellent work Katja, it's really great!

I love her costume design, great idea, I think her legs are a little too short though. A good rule of thumb is to use "heads" as a measurement for the figure. Generally the average height of a person is around 6-7 heads tall, meaning that if you measured the length of a person's head, and then multiplied that by 7, you would get that person's overall body length. In the case of "Chi and Na", I think her legs should be about 3 1/2 times longer than the length of her head. that would make her around 7 heads tall which is appropriate for a hero. lastly your color choices and composition are just fine! KUTGW. 2

:-) Katja Alakotila replies: "Hmm... ofcourse that proportioning theory works. For humans. *g* But then again Chi is not exactly human, is she? Nope, not any more than her fellow dragonriders Aq and Chro... *wink*
Anyways, I'm really glad you like this (despite of her stubby legs *g*). I had fun doing the costume (with what I'm quite lousy)."

She looks like someting out of a nightmare when i was a kid (i used to get freaked out by Alice in wonderland and charlie and the choclate factory) the colours are brillant as is the whole pic

22 Katja Alakotila replies: "Uh... A nightmare picture? Ummm... Sorry. *puppy eyes* Didn't mean to..."

I really like this 2 The make-up looks just like it came from a Beijing-opera, reminds me of my trip to China! Awesome work anyway, and I’d like to see more paintings of them (and this theme) 1

60 Katja Alakotila replies: "Much obliged. ^_^ Those theatre masks from the orient definitely are inspiring. Glad you like it. I didn’t get to see the Beijing opera on my trip to Beijing some months ago, but the parks and buildings and colors and tastes are stilll in my memories..."
