I think they might be a little smoother than that. It's pretty obvious that your dragons are based more along the lines of dinosaurs than anything else - have you ever thought to look up theoretical muscle structures of, say, a brachiosaur? It would probably be a better model in a lot of ways than a human is. That is, if you ever want to do something this tedious again... Kerry S. Boyd replies: "I did the jaw muscles that way on purpose; a dragon's bite is very powerful and thus it needs large muscles there. I took some tips from crocodile neck structure for the jaw muscles, as their bites are about 3000 psi. Also, in that position the muscles are kinda squished, making them look even bigger than they should. I hadn't thought of looking up dinosaurian references... I've never seen anything other than skeletal and full-color renditions of them. I'll have to go look around and see if I can find muscle studies of dinosaurs and compare them. I went with human references because they're the ones I'm most familiar with and most other animals have much similar muscular systems. I'd most likely need something in between the sauropod musculature and the theropod, at least in the neck. "

| 8 Aug 2004 | Marty | Loading...and take it from an artist, (i am one) dont go with sauropod anythings! sauropods NEVER flew and were built too heavy. with no feathers, a birdlike neck may look too thin, but that can be adjusted if you want. belive me, dont go with slow moving long necks, try herrons or storks, even geese, they all have long necks, and they fly quite efficiently... Kerry S. Boyd replies: "Thanks for the star and the suggestions. ^..^ My usage of human references was more due to my lack of others than by choice; I have since accumulated dinosaurian, bird, etc. and will lean heavily on them for the next incarnation of this picture. Thanks again!" | |

And as far as using human muscles as a refrence, its not a good idea. Better refrences would be dinosaurs pterosaurs and birds. Check out tina "arnia" aumala, shes got a dragon musculature picture that would blow your socks off.

Clearing, thing... But come anyway, ill upload some of my own dragons in a few days, (when my ticket block is lifted) great dragon, and remember the birds! Kerry S. Boyd replies: "Hehehe. Okay. ^..^"

Kerry S. Boyd replies: "Thank you! Since I've uploaded it, I've noticed many many problems with it... so eventually I'll re-do it and post up a better one. ^..^ And a book on the biological workups of mythical creatures would definitely be great ^..^ "

On countrair (SP?) it's very beautiful and detailled, although maybe a little unrealistic. (unrealistic? *snotrs at self*) Kerry S. Boyd replies: "You mean the Draconomicon? Yes, I have since bought the book and theirs looks much better. I didn't have the benefit of it when I made mine, and if I ever do this again, it will be a lot better. References = good. "
| 21 Feb 2006 | Young unknown swordsmen | Loading...You know, I have a book on dragons that show their muscular build as well as other things. I just have to find it. (I'm not a very organized warrior) But I think this be a better reference to look at when studying dragons when it comes to muscule build. Very nice job. Kerry S. Boyd replies: "Thank you, though I've since discovered some problems in it... I'll need to do an updated version of this soon. " | |
| 23 Feb 2006 | Young unknown swordsmen | Loading...I know what you mean. I have this drawing that I made two years ago that had a flaw in it, but I didn't notice it for a whole year. It took a while to fix it. So you're not alone. Kerry S. Boyd replies: "^..^" | |
| 12 Oct 2006 | Anonymous | Loading...There is a website, dracionian.com that has a muscular system of a dragon and this pose looks almost exactly like it, just flipped over with slight differences. Theres a club at the end of the tail just like on the site, and the feet positions, and the wing, but all in all its a good drawing. Kerry S. Boyd replies: "I honestly didn't know there was one till after I made this, and that one is better than mine in some respects. I'll tackle this again someday when I have time, now that I have better references for it. " | |
