| 31 Mar 2008 | Confused | Loading...Hi, where can I access Assassin Princess? After reading your other work (which I love) I am very keen to read these chapters. Christy Miller replies: "The Assassin Princess is the very, very, very old version of The Soldier Princess... which has now been changed to The Dragon Child. You can check my personal website www.ckmillerhome.com to read the more updated versions of the book. It should be in stores MAY!!!" | |
| 2 Jul 2008 | Chris A Jackson | Loading...Congratulations on Dragon Child. Drop me an e-mail... I’d love to know how your experience with Helm Publishing went.
Cheers! Christy Miller replies: "Right now I have to give Helm Publishing an OK> there is one lady managing the whole thing and it’s going really slowly... not to mention that my manuscript got completely messed up. They don’t seem to have an editor on duty. I had to go through it over 5000000000000000... (you get the point) times! I’m almost sick of my book now! Anyway, I hope it’s all worth it!"
| 6 Jul 2008 | Chris A Jackson | Loading...That was kind of the impression I got from Helm... Back when they first started out, I was looking at some small presses, and went to their web site. On their main page, I found four typo and grammatical errors... Not for me... I don’t want to dis them, or any other publisher, but it’s definitely a buyer (author) beware market right now...
I’m working with a new small press as well. Aisling Press. I am hoping it turns out well... I will probably be putting Scimitar Moon in their hands very soon.
Keep in touch, and post on my page if you want any help with anything... an edit?... Christy Miller replies: "My book can be ordered through Barnes and Noble or Amazon now! Yay!"
| 19 Jul 2008 | Chris A Jackson | Loading...The company I’m looking at is Aisling Press. Though now I’m rethinking. Nothing bad to say about Aisling, but I do believe I’m selling myself short. I’m soliciting agents now. If I score... great. If not, I have lost nothing but some time... I got lots of that... Christy Miller replies: "Aisling . . . sounds familiar. I don’t know really... I think I might have submitted a query letter to them.
Any tips on how to get an agent? I need one too. It’s too much work getting eveything done myself. "
| 27 Jul 2008 | Chris A Jackson | Loading...Here is a great site on submitting query letters to agents... Follow the rules... http://www.agentquery.com/ Agents come in three flavors, the good, the bad and the predators. Good agents respond to your queries quickly, do not charge reading fees and work hard for you because they earn their money when you do (actually before you do, but that’s another story). The bad agents bring you on as a client, then do nothing... I had one of those... Strangely, those are the hardest to spot ahead of time. Once you figure it out, however, simply cancel the contract. The predators charge reading fees, offer "editorial" services, and are often authors themselves, or work for small press publishers... Conflict of interest...
Anyway, if you want more advice, email : chris@jaxbooks.com
Cheers! Christy Miller replies: "Great! Thank you so much for the advice and all the help. I might contact you later!"
