Don't listen to anyone who tells you to stop copying. Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael --- ALL copied one thing or another TO LEARN. It is the only way an artist can become a better artist. They copy from life and from other artists.
Originality is an illusion-- there is nothing new under the sun. As artists, the best we can hope for is to filter out what doesn't appeal to us and create an amalgam of what does, the end product seeming fresh, though unavoidably influenced by the work of others. However, if your work is a direct copy, it is an admirable thing to give credit to your source.
