I wrote this piece after watching 'Taken.' It just jumped into my mind and stayed there until I wrote it down. But then again... maybe I have always know.

For those of those who know the truth…

Do you think we run around and tell everyone? We KNOW we won’t be believed. Sometimes, we break down and write “fiction”, giving humanity a glimpse of what we know of the truth. We sit back and take the monetary gain from having a “brilliant” imagination. We smile and nod.

It’s a sad smile. Poor humanity. Wouldn’t know the truth if it bit them in the ass. “Oh, what was that??” We chuckle.

You think what we share is a product of our minds. Little do you know, it’s something deep within us. It’s a truth you have no comprehension of. The visions we see are vivid.

“Describe them!” you say. Sometimes we do. Holding back key elements of the truth. Holding back the things you could not possibly understand. How can we describe something to you that you have no words for.

Ah, yes, the language barriers! If you only knew. Sometimes things are not about WORDS. But, words is what you have limited yourself to.

Sometimes, you are even visited. Just to check and see if you’ve gotten off the planet yet. Again, more chuckles. What would you do out there? Save the Universe from itself?

Mankind. The all-knowing righteous leaders. Another sad smile.

You’ve been kept away from the others. So you cannot contaminate the truth of things. Every now and then, children are born. Children who know the truth. A genetic piece comes back to life from a distant ancestor. One placed here to be forgotten. Both those children are awakened to what WAS.

And sometimes, just sometimes, they share it with you. Sometimes, they don’t even know why. Because, they too, have bought into the lie. They truly believe that they are just being “creative.”

But, every now and then, one of them knows the truth. And that one is silent. Smiling and nodding. Putting the pieces together.

            Watching for the truth.

WOW *prolonged admiration* i love the way you've somehow managed to question the sanity of mankind and yet not seem over insulting whilst doing so.

I once tried writing a piece like this for a school assignment but they wouldnt accept it because they said it was too political... but this, somehow you capture futility of life with a deep, melancholy sorrow...... well thats what i got from it....

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "Odd... I don't think this is political, exactly... I guess the whole idea was to make people think, which it appears to be doing, so I've done what I set out to do! (Which is always a good thing...)"

Yes, there are those that know the truth...

Then there are the rest of us that just make stuff up... Heh heh...

Personally, I'll take a good fantasy over the truth any day, but that's just me living in my own little world. Frankly, the truth depresses me too much.

But then, maybe that's not the truth, maybe I'm fibbing... Ahh, the other beauty of fantasy... If you believe it, it becomes the truth...

Minds are like parachutes... they only work when they're open...

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "Hehehehehe. Luv that parachute thing! Thanx for dropping by. I know you're pretty darn busy yourself. I appreciate it."

Wooohooo - as always, grabs my attention and holds it until i finish wanting it to go further.
This is good, lady - very very good.

13 Debra L Kilman replies: "Thank you very much. This is one of my favorite pieces. I'm glad you like it."

Do you believe what you wrote? If so, how did you know? That is Who I am and That is What i am! You are a genius. If you don't believe what you wrote, now you know someone who does.Me.

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "Thank you, Rebecca. Your comment really made me smile. I know exactly what I wrote... whether or not I believe it??? Well, I just knew I had to write it. *smile*"

I know you wrote this long ago, but since I just read it I wanted to let you know how much your creativity inspires me!!! Wow, I feel like I'm reading Bradbury, he always put a twist in his stories. It's strange, but all my stories start with dreams - weird isn't it. I'll have a dream so real and compelling, I have to put it down on paper.

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "Wow - thank you so much!
This is one of my favorite short pieces. It just blasted away in my brain until I HAD to write it down.
In the Shadow of Truth started as a dream, as well. Odd how that happens, isn't it??? Sometimes, they are just so REAL. tis creepy in a way..."

Ah...the Truth...I just read in someone else's story (by Jeff Pederson) that the Truth can only be handled by the strong and only the strong go out to seek it...I think humanity might just be too weak to handle the truth and that's why we create our own truths...because whatever we create ourselves must be safe...uhm...right...

Anyway, personal ramblings aside, this was a brilliant type of inner monologue. I loved the voice in this one too...although it sounded distant and calculated, it wasn't sneering or accusing. Very well written!

I'll be thinking about this all night now! 12

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "Thank you. I had to smile at your last comment - this piece has certainly seemed to generate a lot of thought! Which is good. (I think!)
I actually read this over from time to time. I still don't know exactly where it came from... *smile*"

I've got shivers running up and down my spine, girl! Eerie, mysterious, somehow a little evil... but not so much evil as inexplicable. Isn't it funny how the inexplicable somehow FEELS evil just because we can't explain it away? Very nicely done! ~deb

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "LOL! Yep - the series I watched that inspired this made me feel the same way. I wasn't even sure I was going to ever post this - it was just so eerie...
This is just one of those things that I HAD to write."

HeeHee! I got chills! (good chills) Great piece! You know..I think there really are people like that sometimes.

You know, the ones who put their stories in such detail you almost believe it really happened!

Hmmm...msybe I could be one! (lol j/k!) This was really good!

My niece has been hiding this from me. How does she know? She’s "known" since the day she was born ... I can attest to that because I was there. <giggle> You just wait girlie, now that I found a forum for my sprites and spouts, we will be dueling keys ... "Aunt" Marla

:-) Debra L Kilman replies: "2 I thought you would like this. "
