If there is anything lacking, it is adequate contrast between the lighted areas near the campfire and the darkness all around. The first art book I ever read said that contrast was "the first law of art." TV artist William Alexander put it this way: "If there is no dark, there is no light." You do show darkness in the background under the trees, but no campfire would light the dwarf as much as he is shown here, for example. Also, there should be more contrast between the lighted and unlighted sides of the characters. The best thing about this pic is that it has introduced a bunch of characters, which automatically makes me wish that I knew their story. That is what fantasy art is supposed to do. Kimberly Delain replies: "Heh heh. Story?? *grins evilly* Oooohhh, they have a story, all right. It's a fun story, too.... *grin widens*As for the whole not seeing the dwarf that well, really - well, if I didn't make it light up there, you...wouldn't see the dwarf. *bonks head* Yes. Let's just say the fire is extremely radiant."

Er, I probably over-use this word, but, awesome picture! ^_~ Kimberly Delain replies: "Ok ok!! ^__^ Sorry 'bout that. I'm rather slow sometimes. <__> I'm too busy! Anyhoo, uh...I don't really know how to teach colored pencil... Just...uh...exagerrate the darks? And then just pretend you're shading? I guess..."
