Tag As FavoriteComment		From J.R.R Tolkeins Silmarillion. Some parts of this picture may be wrong, as I didnt have the book handy as I painted this. ANYHOW... Its the fall of Gondolin. What can I say? Armies of Balrogs AND Dragons (Oh Yes!) raised the great elf city to the ground and the balrog lord, Gothmog met a mighty High elf Ecthelion(?) and, well, they killed each other. There you go. Fineliner and watercolours.

The depth to this picture is fantastic! Yay for the burning guy falling from the Tower! Didn't Turgon also die fighting a Balrog? Or did something fall on him? I haven't the book handy and now its gonna drive me nuts.

it was Ecthelion who fought and eventually killed Gothmog, the lord of the balrogs. Also, in the battle of unnumbered tears, it describes the soldiers of gondolin of having steel armor, not bronze. but otherwise, amazing painting!

Awesome! I like that Orc with the arrow through his throat. By the way, I think it’s razed, not raised. Not trying to sound like a know-it all, or anything. Sorry.
