I have a very close personal relationship with many of my characters too. (I have completed two novels now over quite some time) One is scifi and the other is fantasy. I've spent a great deal of time with them so they are like family. Hey, if I don't love my characters—who will? Heh, heh! Anyway, know what you mean, been there, done that.
