You seem to have great instincts for using large areas of dark space, negative space and also areas of softer shading to convey emotions. It's sometimes tempting to try and fill the whole area to make the pic more "complete" but I think the blank spaces can be just a effective if used properly. This is definitely something you do rather well. Anyhoo, please keep following your artistic instincts. They are leading you in a good direction.
