This typical baroque still-life has its special place in my old room. What you see is also the prism of color cast on the wall by the different light sources there. The colors enhance the feeling of a door just opening to a dark room, as you can see by the shadow of the serpent's head and the reflections on the hourglass... Despite the obvious attributes of vanity and death there is a lot of hidden meaning in it: The Byzantine cross represents all kinds of duality me while the Triskell on the dagger (it's designed after mine) means eternal change. One of the books I entitled 'De mysteriis mortis' (About the mysteries of death) while the Hebrew letters on the parchment read 'SalMaweth'- Shadow of death.

Excellent Definition and an intriguing design. Myself, I have not delved that deeply into the shadows as to have the insight for a design such as this but i can well and truly appreciate the frame of mind required to do so.

I like how the color sets a mood to this picture, your shadeing is very good.

One of my favorite pieces up here I think. The amount of symbolism is overwhelming but I love it. So subtle how you made the curling smoke of the candle adorn the face of the shadow-dragon on the wall. It’s captivating details like that which make me come back for more. Wonderfull!
