I would add this advice. Reply to all the comments you recieve. Some readers read the comments as well as the story. If they see no replies, they might think you do not bother reading them. If so, they won't leave any comment. Comment and crits have been very valuable to me in imporoving my writing. You want all the comments you can get. That's why Richard said to visit other writers. They have to know you exist before they can visit.
