Iam studying children's literature accross time and cultures at degree level and it seems that what you should hate , rather than Disney, is 20th century American culture because this is what dictates and changes fairy stories, myths and ledgends. I love hercules...the disney film...especially Megs song!

| 15 May 2006 | Chloë Johnson | Loading...Hmmm... yes, a story featuring rape, extreme gore AND children eaten by snakes IS suitable for the under fives Actually, Hercules is the Roman spelling, and the story is closer to the Roman interpretation, if you look carefully enough. I agree that 'Hercules' is basically a mish-mash of all myths, but they knew that! Heck, Phil even refers to it, he says: "And then you gotta go and see this King, he's got a problem with his stables". Remember, the movie made way for children wanting to know more about the old cultures. If it were the original story, the film would never have made it to cinemas. | |

I have been a mythology nut for ages, and I know the thousands of differences to the original tale. BUT the workers at Disney do their homework. They KNOW the differences too. This is a LIGHTHEARTED film. It is meant to be a comic-strip romp through mythology..a parody...a farce. The main point is the importance of having a loving heart over "rippling pectorals". It is an excellent story for the young (and old!), not to mention an excellent soundtrack and a unique and styalized appearence.
Hate towards anything comes from ignorance...and as I know the Walt Disney Company forwards and backwords (even worked at WDW), I know how much heart they put into what they do. I just ask you to give things a chance instead of go for that "Disney destroys everything" attitude. They are creative. They never say certain legends and myths are supposed to be accurate. They are telling their own story...more like a "hmmm...what if?...". Using their tremendous imagionations, the cast members at Disney have come up with some of the most breathtaking and amazing breakthroughs animated film has ever seen.
But I'll give it to you on the direct-to-video sequels...now THEY are horrid.
