A picture done for a friend of mine who loves maps--old ones, specifically.

From the upper left, clockwise:  Western dragon, Eastern dragon, Babylonian dragon (commissioned by Nebuchadnezzar, if memory serves), Quetzalcoatl.  The background is watercolor, and everything else is colored pencil over that.

Bristol, 11 x 14 inches.  Feb. 2007.

Hmmmm... It's a very interesting piece. Overall, i really like it. I really like the way you have used the dragons to frame your map. (The dragons are very good by the way. I like the way you used a different race of dragon for each corner of the globe.)

BUT... If it was going to be perfect (and this is only my opinion)i would like the map to be more detailed. I like things when they have a real feel to them and they need to tell a story. Maps are great for that with all their: city names, town names, village names, kingdom borders, ocean names, rivers, streams, brookes, lakes, forests, woods, roads, lanes, bridges, land marks, etc. I know this is all pretty obvious stuff but i'm just trying to point out how much more can be done with this.

Now this particular map wouldn't look to good too indepth as in lanes, streets, etc. However, if you included land marks, place names, rivers, roads, mountain ranges, etc i really do think it will be and great painting instead of a good one.
