Tag As FavoriteComment		Just like this picture's title says, this is Hestia, the ancient Greek's goddess of the Hearth and protector of the home and family. (Ever hear of the Vestal Virgins? They tended the hearth in her name for 30 years and were not allowed to marry while serving. After the thirty years were up, it was bad luck to marry. So....) <br>I'm not exactly why I'm telling you that...just FYI I guess. <br>Anyways, I did this picture for Latin class. Done in ink and color pencils. The left eye got kinda smeared, but don't mind that. I smear things all the time. It is a miracle it turned out so well.

I love this pic, and so does my class. we modeled our "Hestia" costume after it. Everyone is dressing up as a greek god/goddess tomorrow for our summer "camp day". thanks for the inspiration!

Beautiful depiction of Hestia. Thank you. BYW, the Vestal Virgins were dedicated to her Roman counterpart, Vesta. The law was they COULD marry after serving 30 yrs, if they wished.
Robert Graves’ book "The White Goddess" has some very interesting explanations of the reasons for the restrictions of the Vestal Virgins.
