Short, short, short story! It was originally in a reply to a comment I wrote to someone on elfwood and I thought it too good not to upload!

Slowly Boredom crept up the darkened staircase and made its way to the room at the end of the hallway. The night outside was silent as was the darkness within the house. Quietly it crept along, its long tendrils held out before it. When it came to the right door, it slithered underneath, through the gap at the floor. A smile grew upon its weightless lips as it slipped forward, creeping, creeping, creeping.

It spied its next victim sitting by her desk at the window. The light of the moon shone onto the paper in front of her, illuminating it. The paper, glowing white, would not save her from the clutches of her mortal enemy. Ever so slowly, the tentacled creature named Boredom, moved silently across the floor.

It reached out one misty back tendril and thrust it through the vulnerable girl's back. There was no scream, there was no movement as it slipped entirely through her until there was no trace of it left.

Upon the paper there was only a few words written in oozing black ink...

I am bored…

And that is all there was, Boredom had killed its victim, and the girl's imagination was dead.

Ha ha! I feel like that sometimes, you know that stage where you're so bored you go into a glazed drooling trance? It drains you just like the Boredom in your story, it made me feel tired just reading it!

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Yes! I definetly know about the glazed drooling trance... I can't count how many times it has happened to me! ^_^"

*keels over, helpless with laughter*

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Tee hee hee.. I'm glad! ^_^"

Heh...found a new mantra for while I'm at work 1 I'm looking forward to the one where Boredom dies! Now that I killed my writer's block with Nanowrimo, I want to write all the time. But then there is all that required mind-numbing reality in between.... *sigh*

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "*sigh* I know what you mean. My reality has terrible manners and keeps pushing its way into my life at very inopportune moments.Yes, kill boredom! DIE BOREDOM DIE!!! MUWHAHAHAHAH!!! ^_^"

I love it!
Short but great.
This is hard for me to admit but there is nothing to complain about. Just the right amount of detail, fun, atmosphere and it's a pretty original idea too.
Cool...now I feel in the mood to write

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Hope you use that bag of inspiration well! And I'm glad you thought it was well written! ^_^"

Ah, yes, I remember now... I love this story, still.

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Well that's good! And lets hope it stands the test of time and I get famous and they keep paying me royalties for the rest of my LOOOONG life! ^_^"

oh dood, i loved it! but in my opinion, i think you should take out the 'boredom' im the first paragraph, that way it can hold suspense until it says,
'Ever so slowly, the tentacled creature names Boredom, moved silently across the floor'
i dunno to me that just sounded kewl. but im also an idiot, who still likes you story *sticks out tongue to mock her own confusion* lol, i should be back like...later to read your other stuff. so expect more from me *winks*

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Glad you loved it and thanks for the helpful hint! Hope you do come back... and soon! ^_^"

Bril-li-ant. *ROFL*

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Hey thanks! ^_^ *huggles*"

My, how sinister! I don’t think I’ll ever write "I am bored..." again! >.>

It’s also kind of funny in a darkly humorous way. But that could just be my sense of humor 14

I do like Brandi’s suggestion above about removing the first "Boredom" to create some suspense. If you just used something like It, I think it would add to some of the dark atmosphere and be even creepier and scarier O.O

I’m glad you decided to upload it! So many people would have missed out on an awesome story if you hadn’t!

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "I think in one of the original drafts I did have that first ’boredom’ as ’it’. Not sure why it got changed though. I will put it back to ’it’ when my procrastination status has run low. ^_^"

And in less than two hundred words you have captured the battle that plagued every person who has ever suffered from writers’ block. It was nice, if somewhat depressing to have it officially diagnosed.

Keep up the good work.

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "When I thought this story up I was kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner. It does affect so many people all the time. Glad you liked it!

*hands you a cookie*"
