A poem I wrote as part of a project about a 'what if' scenario. I hope the poem is not so abstract that you can't figure out what happend to change that paticular world's history. Sort of like the posibilities involved in alternate universes. Hope you enjoy!

The When that Wasn’t

The when that wasn’t that was not now

Come hither and tell us of the how

Did death not live to cast the die

Did life not die to see it cry

For history made was gone to dust

Did not create what was a must

Time traverse a different route

And then for all must we doubt

For no more was man created

As it was that God had fated

The dark of night forever born

No man to see a day to dawn

And in this nothing God did dwell

Was in itself no more than hell

And naught of man to see from whence

For naught to see a miracle hence

Because of all immortal’s blunders

There is no future full of wonders

To dwell alone in the great abyss

There is every mortal thing to miss

No angels to seek the souls of pure

And make true all that need a cure

Past and present, are all connected

No future now is ever protected

For none shall see a babe to weep

In a mother’s arms to keep

Silent now the ancient screams

Life is now nothing more than dreams

The when that wasn’t that was not now

Come hither, I’ll tell you of the vow

Should death not live to cast the die

Should life not die to see it cry

*first comment, can't believe it's not dancing, dance*

Can't believe i have managed to snare yet another in my mildly short list of first comment tangoes (is tangoes like mangoes? or is it without the e?)

This is a great poem, and deserves great praise, i may even nominate it in the Elfwood Awards....

The abstract (at least that's what i got from it) feeling of this poem reveals a much deeper message, about life, death, and the meaning of cheese, (sorry, that was my part time goofnut of a muse, Leroy) it's both captivating and noteworthy, it's rhymes are exquisate (not sure on the spelling) and it's story is magic....well done....

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Thanks! I'm really proud of this one. Sometimes I just love to re-read it and sigh at my wonderfulness! 10 And I think its tangos. And please feel free to nominate this! *winkwink*"

I read it twice and so with great thoughtfulness, emphasis, and insight I say with all the authority that I can muster: Huh. Not a question, but a statement.

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Okay..... ;P"

I don't really understand it, but I can honestly tell you, I like it! Rhyming poems... So fun to read.

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "*pats you on the head*I'm sure you'll understand it one day.... 12Tee hee hee I'm just so evil aren't I but I agree with you, rhyming poems are cool!! 2"

Thoughtful, interesting piece. Definately an intriguing concept; if the dawn of life never occured, if Man was never created. I must needs ponder this.

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Great! I love to envoke thought in people!!! 2"

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Well it makes me feel all warm and gooy inside that you liked it! ^_^ And I think I'll forgive you, mortal being, for forgetting my name... just this once. But don't worry I'd forget it myself if I wasn't constantly reminded of it. 2~"

I understand it now!! Lol sorry..*blushes* i just had to share my moment of enlightenment with you...*twiddles thumbs for a bit and then wanders off*

:-) Emma-Jane C. Smith replies: "Congrats!! You're a smart cookie! ^_^ It usually takes a while for people to understand it! And no need to blush! To celebrate here's your own little pet mutant cumquat. His name is Squelch! ^_^ He's just sooo adorable!"
