| 24 Jul 2007 | Helena | I see that your most recent post is certainly not your first. I enjoy sketch artistry over painting and the like. I must say that yours is quite good. Are you selling any of these pieces? Your handling of the unicorn (which is what drew me here initially) is certainly unique. So many artists go for the cold breeds for size or they go for the standard breds for a delicate look but your choice of an arabian is a thoughtful one. (an no beard..I hate beards on unicorns don't you?) A tremendous collection - must come back again (work day is done for today) Laura Baker replies: "Thanks for stopping by. Yes as I said above, I have been here awhile. My art goes in spurts, following the business of my life. The unicorn was actually originally drawn when I was a teen, I think that may explain some of the unique colour of the original horse (the paper is now a bit off white). And I do prefer the warm bloods for the look and I only put beards on when I want the classic "medieval" look. | 24 Jul 2007 | Anonymous | Saw your work go up when I checked the most recent additions today...wow I had no idea you were out here and so much too... This is like a history of your work catalogued on the net....compared to many, you are very prolific and improving with each work from a cursory examination. Like your trends in computerized combining of original work as you did with the "Scouting Party" and many others....like the colourized trend as well- although if I were to make an observation as a new comer to your site, keep at the face, hands, feet etc that you have described here. You are improving and will continue to do so if you keep sketching while computerizing too. Laura Baker replies: "Thanks for checking out my page. Yes I have been here awhile, in fact I just removed a few of the very first works and a couple of "experiments" with coloured pencils that were less than successful. I do intend to keep a few of the early works up even as I add new and hopefully better work so other artist can see the evolution and perhaps it will help them if they have some of the same problems. I really believe that elfwood should be about sharing and learning not just having people ooh and ah over what you do." | |
| 26 Jul 2007 | Suzzanne Linklottle | Love to see that you have been busy. Glad to see you have found time to sketch and to post more work. Funny that I was off when it happened but a nice treat to come home to. Fantastic compilation work and great playing with colours. I agree with Jennifer about the colour choices although I thoroughly disagree with her opinion on b&w sketches. Relieved and glad you are still out there. Laura Baker replies: "Thanks. I was a little surprised myself at how quickly these pics went up. Fastest moderation I ever had. Don't worry I intend to continue both the B&W sketches and the colour works. Thought you would appreciate seeing the girls in a new setting." | |
| 14 Oct 2007 | Suzzanne Linklottle | Are you still out there? Thought I would spend a lazy Sunday afternoon surfing my favourite artists but haven't seen anything new. How is life at your home? Hope you are well. Hope you are still sketching. | |
| 29 Dec 2007 | Suzzanne Linklottle | Laura I have been to your site at least 3 times since my last posting. Haven't seen you or anything new from you or even heard from you in some time. Are you still there? Is everything ok with your family? Not nosey just worried that my favourite artist no longer posts here. If that is the case would you mind replying to this leaving a url where you are posting? I can't imagine you have given up your art. | |
| 30 Dec 2007 | Annon_ymous | The random picture generator brought me to your "Dangerous Rouge" but I simply had to comment on the collection. You are without a doubt a very prolific artist whose skills are seemingly in rapid growth throughout this work. A quick glance would suggest that you have been posting since 1999. I am not certain how many of your fellow elfwoodists have been here that long and consistently adding to their collection as you do. Hope you maintain your pattern. Annon | |
| 14 Mar 2008 | Annonymous | Very cool site. So many pieces here....found you on a random pic like the last person did ( so it appears) A rainy wet day on the coast here to end the last day of freedom and so I thought I’d surf..... you have some amazing pieces here... you do dragons and elves very well ( you’ve probably heard that one before ..... yup judging from what i have read above) YOu also seem to have a number of "signature" gals... they are very kewl too. That sorceress rocks...as does your scout...although the rogue in "Just Try Me" is very saucy. Thanks for the playful and well done artistic diversion today.... senior year is a toughy and this has been a great break. | |
| 13 Apr 2008 | Anon. | At the temple was a pic of the day displayed yesterday. Followed the thumbnail to your site. Wow a large and prolific collection to be found here. I love the depiction of strong powerful women characters. You seem to have a fondness for heroines, especially fighter class heroines. Will have to return when time permits. TTFN Julia. | |
| 21 Jul 2008 | Julia | Ok I was just at your ruins pic the other day and when I came back here I think I am on to something. You have a nack for sketching amazing solo figures with exquisite detail and then you get into this story telling mode where you place them into settings or pair them up with others and the results are these entirely new, original works that tell new stories all on their own. This appears to be your trade mark whether you meant it that way or no. The other trend I have noted is the colorized trend. Taking your original b&w sketches and digitally colorizing them - awesomely kwel. At any rate as time permits I need to come back again... study more of your works. Great Job Laura. | |
| 9 Aug 2008 | Suzzanne Linklottle | Ok I haven’t commented in some time (depsite my frequent visits) because I am not certain what I would say. I hope all is well with you and your daughter. I hope your health has not kept you from your art and I hope life has not gotten in the way of someone who is clearly a very creative and skilled emerging artist of tremendous potential. I have said many times that I think you should create and sell limited prints of some of your pieces. If your husband has dubbed me your biggest fan then from the "president of your fan club" please take this in the spirit to which it is intended.... please produce more. Miss you Laura, Suzzanne. | |
