this was drawn a long time ago in middle school. Its a fan art of one of my favorite book series, the mage wars by Mercedes Lackey. The Black gryphon is my favorite. Most of my gryphons are based off of Lary Dixon. This picture apears much smaller in the begining of the gryphon books.

he's so cool. I love the shading and the pose.

:-) Lora LaVonne Foulger replies: "Thanks, but the illustrations in the books look better. You should go see the pict in a library or a book store. On the inside cover of Mercedes Lackey's Black Gryphon."

This is a wonderful representation of Skan. I could so easily see him like this, reading a book out in the courtyard in the Haighlei capital, waiting for another crisis to arise. (Also, you don't see many people drawing him as the WHITE Gryphon. Black you see all the time, but this is better than I have ever seen the White Gryphon ever drawn).

This is really neat! I enjoy the Mercedes Lackey books as well, though my personal favourite would have to be the Last Herald Mage series.

The Black Gryphon is probably my favorite book of all time. I read it semi-anually, actually. I didn't really care too much for the later books, because Skandranon became lazy in the second one, and then old in the third one.

The picture is very well drawn, but I feel his "neck feathers" are a bit too bulky. Keep in mind, it's been a while since I looked at the picture in the book, but I believe a gryphon who is in top physical condition (and often deals in stealth missions as per the first scene in the book) would have a more trim figure.

Anyway, it's very nice, and I envy your ability to draw. I can't draw to save my life. ;P

Muahahaha! Hello again! I love the series, you should also try the series by Tammora Pierce, she rocks also. Skannie-poo is just a cutie, see how he poses? He knows he rocks!
