Rhiannon is riding, gently beating drum

Life in me awakens, just before she comes

Lay in my arms the child of creation

Sleeping, sleeping, lull me to the realms of the Fae

In my nightly death when truth went astray

I did not kill fertility, I did not let death reign

I woke as innocent as they, and yet I bear the blame

This is when the nightly death abandons me to wake

But nothing comes to give release; I lost the will to make

Rhiannon is now crawling, a goddess on her knees

For murder is her crime and she must pay the wicked fees

Lay on my back the burden of this, man’s world

Reaching, reaching, take me to the realms of Monotheism

The Goddess is dead and buried in times questionable chasm

I am the soil, the seed, the growth, I am the fertile plane

I am woman, I am unique, and still I am the same

I am the death, the womb that bleeds, when life is not conceived

I have this power, of death and life, of Lillith and of Eve

Jeez i wish i could write something like this when im blocked! Again you seem to have perfect meter. I really don't know of the myth so the metaphors were lost on me. *Sorry!* However, I really liked this poem. My favorite line has to be "I am woman, I am unique, and still I am the same" The poem is perfect. *Does a happy, giddy first comment dance while singing zip-ed-dee-do-da* (only really happy song i know and i don;t even know how to spell it!) lol

:-) Lyndsay E. Gilbert aka Liadan replies: "Yay! I can educate you on the Story of Rhiannon. Rhiannon gave birth to a son and then fell asleep. The son disappeared in the middle of the night, and Rhiannon's maids were frightened and so killed some puppies and smothered her in blood as she slept. She was then accused of killing her own child. And as punishment she was to stand at the gates to the Kingdom and offer people a lift into the kingdom on her back. So in a patriarchal way- women (the most fertile of all) were blamed for killing fertility and they were punished. The Goddess was humilated and forgotten about, downcast and downtrodden and eventually forgotten. (so teh metaphor of killing fertility, is my Creativity being dead at the time)The myth has a happy ending, he baby is found being raised by kindly people who found him in the forest. And he is reunited with his parents and Rhiannon's innocence is proven. Thanks for the comment. There are several other metaphors running throught it- of a personal nature. And others would take forever to explain L x "

This was a great poem.. some parts I wondered a bit about the rhyming but it didn't matter I really liked how you wrote this

the ending was my favourite though

"I am the soil, the seed, the growth, I am the fertile plane
I am woman, I am unique, and still I am the same
I am the death, the womb that bleeds, when life is not conceived
I have this power, of death and life, of Lillith and of Eve"

this was truly well written ^_^

:-) Lyndsay E. Gilbert aka Liadan replies: "Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you had a favourite part. Its my favourite part too ^_^ Though this is certainly not my favourite of all my poems. Can't decide that one. I know which ones I don't like though. Always we are far better at criticizing ourselves than praising. Thanks again.Lx"
