| 29 Aug 2002 | Claire E. Condon | Loading...Is this the one you meant? I like it more than mine, because of all the detail and how precise it is. Patience in drawing isn't something I'm so good at. The shiny parts are especially well-depicted! | |
| 10 Sep 2002 | Magic Parrot Cheese...quid? | Loading...I find when i draw too long i start cutting corners and start get sloppy. How long do you spend at a time? You obviously don't cut corners where detail is concerned! Lieuwe Boer replies: "When I get tired and impatient of drawing all those details, I simply stop drawing. And I really have to force myself to continue after a break of a few hours (or days...). In this drawing, I had come to the skirt when I started to get real impatient. Luckily I was able to push myself to finish it the next day.Sometimes, however, I'm able to draw for hour after hour, until the drawing is finished, and this is usually in the very early morning. The Masakari monk and the female monk are results of these midnight frenzies." | |

| 23 Oct 2003 | Jim Whitley | Loading...Great drawing.... One question though. Joan of Arc was the 1300's, right? So wouldn't he have had Chainmail on? Anywho, good drawing Lieuwe Boer replies: "Well, Joan of Arc lived around 1420, more than a century after the first primitive plate mails had arrived. You can assume that a knight like this would wear a plate armour over the padded undercoat, possibly in combination with chainmail. At the time I drew this I didn't even know all that though, call it luck " | |

| 2 Jan 2004 | David Mitchell | Loading...Hmmm...which version of Joan of Arc inspired this pic? I'm only really familiar with Luc Besson's recent "The Messenger", which is a film with some awesome atmosphere and costumes (the deep-voiced, foul-mouthed knight in that movie sounds exactly like I imagined Brygus to), which I actually liked more than the movie itself. I like especially like the noble face of this fellow, the earnesty of his expression and pose, and of course, the detail. Lieuwe Boer replies: "I believe there are two Joan of Arc movies from 1999, the one you mention is the one where Joan is kind of a psycho, right? The one I was inspired by was the other version, simply called 'Joan of Arc' I think. Well, inspired only by the fraction of what I saw of it actually. I did see 'The Messenger' from beginning to end though, but at a later time." | |
| 30 Mar 2004 | Nostalgia Man | Loading...Well done! But I thought the "coat of plate" or padded garments were worn under the plate armor! I may be wrong though! Cheers! Lieuwe Boer replies: "Nope, you're right, but this knight right here took off the plating because he's in camp or something." | |
