Duo is a fire mage and the end of his long braid is on fire! (how cool is that?) the flame burns constantly as it reflects his life source and it's a magic flame that does not burn.
 
Duo has always been my fave Gundam character and i never thought he could be any better than he was in the anime...and then i read the fanfiction Gundam Fantasy.

done in corel painter, from scratch, by mouse, with only the chalk, eraser and smear tools and many layers. wings done with no reference, duo done with reference since I wanted to stay close to the anime's style

i have not read a fanfic in years and i gave up on them because i read so many bad ones, but this one i freaken love. there is already existing art of this fanfic and it was this art http://harogirl.deviantart.com/art/The-Death-Card-Gundam-Fantasy-127169912 that lead me to this art http://sapphiregamgee.deviantart.com/art/Wufei-s-Plea-190304830  and that art made me want to read the story and i really got into it.

this story really stands up well on its own, and that one does not need to see gundam wing to understand and enjoy the story, if you changed all the names this story would still stand up perfectly well as an epic fantasy.
 now i know that for some fans of GW it will seem freakishly odd to do a fantasy story and make them mages with wings, i will admit that the concept caused me to raise a sceptic eyebrow, but as i read it i found a strong and original story aided by using the preexisting characters because as a GW fan you get much stronger feel for their roles and personalities (not to mention the fact it being characters i know and love allows me to fangirl all over this)
its worth a read.
