The story revolves around a young chap who becomes a knight later in the story. It's a very interesting story. Please read it again, last altered on 29/05/99.

The Doomed Knight, Part 1

The Heroes of the Hidden Realm

It was pouring with rain in Retior, a band of soldiers were marching into the wasteland of Retior where the war-damaged land was turned into rubbles. There was nothing or no one around as they searched for survivors. "Milord," the leader of the group voiced out, "I am absolutely sure that there are no one around here. The Cavoris are no more."

"I know what you are thinking Jurdon, but we are not giving up this search unless we find their remains. It's an order by the King, his majesty will not be pleased if we give up. This is a futile search but an order is an order. Even if we do not find the Cavoris, we might find survivors. Remember Jurdon, we have unfinished duties."

Staring out of the hole, Willn held his right hand over his sister's mouth. His stomach was moaning hungrily but his fear kept him under the neat toppled down building. He was anticipating the arrival of a rescue army but he felt that none could be trusted. His eyes rolled as he watched the soldiers paced near the gap.

The fact that he was trembling under the rubble showed his great apparition towards strangers. He was smart for a child at the age of 6. However intelligent Willn may be, his cowardice towards death and torture he had witnessed strayed him from being rescued. "Let's call it for a day. Jurdon," the leader shouted, "gather your men here, we'll move back to camp for now."

After the rescue army left, Willn and his younger sister climbed out of the gap. "I'm hungry," Tanisha said. Willn stared at the last piece of cheese and breaks it into half, "Here, take a little of this." Saying that he handed the cheese to his sister and puts back the remaining piece into his shirt. "I'll find more food for you I promise."

They walked into the forest together as Willn sipped the water from the canteen. He passed the canteen to Tanisha who drank greedily, emptying the entire canteen. Picking up some wild berries, Willn ate a few and grabbed some into his shirt. He was unaware that the berries are not consumable and he vomitted in the next instance.

As the Cavoris walked around the deserted forest, they started to become frightened. Slowly the cold wind blew and Tanisha became too frightened to even budge. Gathering his courage and strength, Willn carried his younger sister about. The poor child was so weary and hungry that eventually he fell and injured his kneecap. Tanisha on the other hand was unscathed.

The night was freezingly cold and since the injured Willn could no longer carry his sister about and his sister refuse to wander in the forest. They decided to camp overnight without sleeping. Willn took off his own shirt and covered his sister who slept peacefully as he shivered without rest throughout the dreadful night.

The dark sky hovering above Willn was brightly shone with the stars. The cresent moon was shimmering dimly under the clouds. However Willn was not as peaceful as the sky above. He was strickened with hunger and tired. He had been starving for days to give his little sister more food. His teeth was chattering as he tiredly yawned. He couldn't sleep neither could he sit peacefully.

There was a slight shuffling sound in the forest and Willn although tied down by fatigue and hunger, could hear it clearly. At first he thought he was too tired but the shuffling noise became more louder. Soon he saw a pack of wild dogs before himself and his sister. Immediately he picked up a stone and hurled and the leader of the pack. It growled in anger and approached Willn.

Willn held the sharp wooden knife Derinal had left him and looked at his sister who was in a deep slumber. The dog lunged at Willn who held both his hands out when it jumped on him, injuring the dog instantly. It fell back and growled at Willn again. Willn was still afraid of the wild dogs. However he had no choice. Picking up a stone, he tossed it at the dog again but this time he missed and the dog caught Willn by surprise.

The dog was above Willn and was about to chew Willn on his neck. A plucking noise followed by a hissing sound was heard. The dog fell to the ground dead. The pack seeing that their leader was dead, immediately escaped. A tall young man walked towards the dead hound and removed his arrow from the hound. Then he gently smiled at young Willn.

"Young boy, who are you and what are you doing here?" the hunter inquired. Willn stared at him and gave him no reply. He hestitated for a response but sensing that Willn will give him none, he walked up and offered to share a meal with him. At first, Willn just shook his head to reject but after looking at his sister, he accepted the offer.

"Who are you?" the man questioned him again. Apparently his native Norikan rasped voice revealed that he was no enemy and Willn replied, "My name is Willn," in his clear Alinese tongue. "By Gabl, you are an Alinese! You should not be around this area," he grabbed the struggling Cavoris and ran back to the location of the ruins.

On arriving back to Retior where the camp is situated, he brought the two kids into the tent. "You majesty, I've found these two kids in the Anazarian Forest. If I am not wrong, he is the sole son of late Derinal," the hunter spoke in a clear Alinese tongue. Willn was shocked to find this hunter to be an Alinese.

The king immediately walked down and patted Willn on his head. "You must have suffered a lot, young Cavori." Willn was amazed as he did not know who they are. "Who are you, why do you know my father's name and my name?" "Your father is a great warrior Willn," the knight in disguise of a hunter told him, "and this is the man your father served for 20 years."

"I am King Alin IV, and my name is Leister. We have been searching for you, young Cavori. Make yourself at home, lad. Salendo, prepare a separate room for these two. Ensure that they are well accommodated," King Leister Alin spoke. "Yes, your majesty."

"So what actually happened after that, Lord Xyrulgile?" Jen Marzun asked, "What was the King's name?"

Nelstar Xyrulgile slowly sipped the wine from his goblet and continued, carefully and not revealing the names, "Well, I remember this time one summer when I was 12.."

"Willn!" Leister Alin shouted. "Yes your majesty!" Willn replied. "Hold your swords with both hands to slash and thrust with one hand! Now twist your body and slash upwards. Yes that's right. Now hold it there. Well.. lift your arms and straighten your wrist and pull it down. That's all for today and the strokes you've just learnt is called the 'Piercing Star Slash'."

"Brother!" Tanisha called out, "come here. I have something to tell you." Willn slowly sheathed his sword and strided towards his younger wild sister. "Do you remember Fernaskiz? That guy punched me and threw me into the horse stables! I want you to enact revenge for me. He even called Alexi and the rest of us names," Tanisha whispered. "Alright, I'll go over and try out the 'Triple Star Stab' and the 'Piercing Star Slash' on him," Willn claimed.

The girls then ran up to Alexi and Alexi and the girls were sniggering and giggling. They sneaked behind Willn and hid themselves behind the bushes as they watched Willn confront Fernaskiz. "Hey you, why did you do that to my sister?" Willn questioned. "What you mean called her names? You are the one who started it. You scoundrel. I have not find trouble with you when you threw my shoes into the river!"

"That's because you broke my chair when you put your fat ass on it," Willn scolded Fernaskiz. The two squabbled for a while and both became more furious as they spoke until Willn unsheathed the wooden sword and said, "Fight me if you're man enough, you farmer boy." "Hah! Fancy calling me that when you're not a noble yourself. You and your father are both failures and that is a disgrace to the knights!"

Without any further delay, Willn held his sword up and stabbed the sword at Fernaskiz's stomach. Fernaskiz fell and picked up the broom and thrusted it aimlessly at Willn. Willn ducked the blow and uplifted Fernaskiz Rubello by swinging the sword at his ankle. Fernaskiz got up immediately and crashed Willn to the wall. Seeing this the girls cheered for Willn to encourage him.

"Willn hit his face!" Nasila Xilan yelled. Willn jerked Fernaskiz back and sidestep to dodge Fernaskiz who crashed against the wall. Taking a wide step and twist, Willn slashed the sword on Fernaskiz head making him hit the wall for the second time. Fernaskiz screamed in agony and kicked Willn on his chest making Willn fall backwards.

"Arghh.." Willn jumped up and slashed the sword again at Fernaskiz, Fernaskiz dodged the first attack but the next instance, Willn thrust the sword at his chest and slashed it upwards flicking Fernaskiz slightly backwards. He did not stop his attacks there, immediately he swing down his sword slashing it down from Fernaskiz left neck down to his right thigh sending Fernaskiz to the backyard of where the hay was.

It was the first time Willn used his "Piercing Star Slash" to attack an opponent and it was a great success. However this success was shortlived when Salendo found them fighting. Both Willn and Fernaskiz were reprimanded for fighting by King Alin IV. Willn made faces and left the council chamber and returned to his room.

"So who won?" Jen Marzun asked.

"I won. I managed to make that guy injure himself badly and all I got then was just scratches while he was badly bruised," Nelstar replied.

"It's alright milord not to tell me their names... but definitely you can tell me your sister's name?"

"Her name was 'Alkimnia Beii Sinra'."

"What's that supposed to mean? That doesn't sound like a name at all."

"It's old kingdom tongue," Nelstar answered.
