Who said a beast couldn’t be beautiful as well? This gorgeous octo-gal showing her self off certainly thinks so. Or perhaps she’s just a bit surprised you sneaked up on her from behind.  ;)

Those who know my stuff probably also know about my affection for creatures that seem to belong in the sea, partly because water is such a good excuse to draw tentacles. I am fully aware that the octopus/human combination has been done quite a lot of times before but I still wanted to have a go, try to put my own style into it as it were. (And draw tentacles of course. I haven’t drawn tentacles in ages)

Tried out something different with the background this time. Didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it (for a moment I felt the “oh-no-I’ve-ruined-it-panic rise towards the end) but it’s good enough for me. Done with the usual weapons: 0.5 mm mechanical with the extra addition of a 0.7 mm mechanical and 3B Graphite for darker shades. Widh: approx A4. Height: approx A3.

FIRST COMMENT! I absolutely adore the lighting, and the expression on da face, and the amazing detail, and the way the mer-octo-thingy is beautiful, yet not quite human. all in all, i love it!

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Thank you thank you, Rebeckah. It’s perhaps a much brighter lightning than usual but it was fun nonetheless. Glad you liked it 2"

A very very beautiful drawing 1

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Thank you very much, Anne. A beast is only unpleasant when we let them. Me... I want to find the beauty in them. 2 Thanks for swinging by. "

Tentacles=Louise 2 Magnificent use of pencil as always. I don’t know what you don’t like in the background but I can’t find any flaws from it (nor in the whole picture). Her pose is also well done just as if someone would have sneaked and took a peek at her. And the sunrays are great too. I just wish I could do something like that.

I must also admit that you have managed to make her quite attractive despite the tentacles and all. (or do I have an odd taste with females?) 1

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "No... Being attracted to things with tentacles is good taste in my oppinion. Go for it, ask her out. But don’t blame be if she drowns you and rips your head off. 12 The background looks fine now but it still not quite match what I had in my head when I began drawing. That just goes to prove that drawing is an evolving thing. // If you want to try out sunrays, it was actually quite easy. Fill area with pencil (lightly), spread the pencil out with some fluffy cotton, make rays with the edge of an eraser."

You’re tentacle talent amazes me! I’m drifting away from pencils at the moment, wish I could get it back. I do have new stuff in other works. Great job Louise.

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Don’t worry, Wayne, if that’s what you want you’ll find your inner pencil again. Trust me. And as for tentacles. Who doesn’t love a bunch of tenties?"

Really beautiful work here hon!! Love the expression on the creatures face, like she was caught by surprise here!! the kelp forrest is amazing and very detailed and as always you tenticles are second to none!!!! The only thing I think could be changed (and this is of course just my opinion) would be the rays of light coming throught the water, I think they should be a little less consistant in size, some should be wider and brighter others thin and dull as the light would be different due to algea in the water ,seaweed and stuff like that.Hope you are having a great summer and its great to see your latest creature creation!!!!

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Well put. I did try making the rays thicker and thinner but I guess it doesn’t show very well. Oh well... back to the drawing board. And you’re right, she does look a bit surprised. Let’s just hope she’s friendly enough to leave you alone. 2 Having a great summer indeed. It’s been a fine and warm week after a long period of clouds and rain. Loving it!"

Wow Louise! This piece is so... OOOO!!! I love it so much 18
You’ve done a fine work on the light rays that piercing the water (eraser?) and the pose of the creature is really theatrical! The tentacles looks great and her spooky expression reminds me of my sister 14

Wonderful job as always!! 13

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Thankyouthankyou... Yes, the rays were made by an eraser. Simple but it does the job. Yeah, the pose was meant to be really big and theatrical, I’m trying to get a bit more movement into the art. Feels so static at times. And I dread to think what kind of expression your sister gets if this reminds you of her. Hmmm... Better not think about it. 2"

wow very cool, and for an supposed to be ugly creature you made me really think of her as beautiful 17... good job 1

:-) Louise Lindgren replies: "Traditionally unattractive, yes. But I like tentacly things 12 And I’m glad you liked it. Thank you. "
