I just searched it on Google images, and you’re right, it kinda does look like it! Cool! ^_^
Thanks for the comment, Thomas. I do like how, like you said, it seems to have depth. It’s just a bunch of scribbling sculpted into a castle, so it’s cool that it has that effect! xD"
| 16 Jul 2008 | Gwenivere Stephan | Loading...Wow beautiful. The castle is so wonderfully made and the rocks are very realistic. Great work (oh, I didn’t forget the little dragony guy - he’s a fantastic little shape!) Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Yeah. The sky just looked empty, like there should be a reason for so much sky to be visible. So I added the dragon. Makes it a little ominous, doesn’t it. ^_^
Thank you so much for the comment, Gwenivere! "

Kinda ominous and run-down looking, like someone hasn’t lived there for a really long time. Maybe the dragon scared everyone off? Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Hehe, good idea. Yup, really and truly a napkin. xD
I think what gives it the ruined, haunted-but-still-majestic look is the way it was made. Almost sculpted out of the doodle. Just kinda building on the lines and flowing with it. It was a good exercise in creating something without the weight of expectation. Every artist should do it once in a while. ^_^"
| 18 Nov 2008 | Silvia Meiliani | Loading...Awesome, GREAT CASTLE!^^ I always find hard times in drawing buildings or things like that... May ask for some tips please.... Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Certainly, Silvia. The main thing to remember is perspective. You don’t have to be too precise to make it look good, but you at least have to keep everything the same. If you’re looking up at something, all the curves and corners go up, if you’re looking down, they go down. The further up or down they are, the more they bend, and vice versa.
Like most anything in drawing, just start with basic shapes and modify from there, almost as if you’re sculpting the buildings.
If you want to make everything perfect, there’s lots of books on perspective drawing, but the basic idea is: Find the horizon, choose a Vanishing point, and have all the perspective lines radiate out from there. All the building structures should correspond with it.
I usually just wing it, but I’m sure you’ll find what works best for you. The important thing is to keep at it. ^_^"
| 13 Feb 2009 | Lloyd Dennis Zacarias | Loading...This is nicely done. The castle design is great and it looks like a lot of thought went into it’s design. It makes me want to try to make a scenic drawing. Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Actually you’d be surprised how little I thought about it. It was a doodle more than anything else. I just went with it. ^_^ Sometimes the best stuff comes like that. It felt almost like sculpting." | |
| 6 Apr 2009 | Kayla M Acosta | Loading...honestly I think this is your best work ever! totally awesome. Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Again, it jsut goes to show: some of the best stuff only comes on the fly. Never ignore a whim or a tickling fancy. " | |
