Morikoru Seregond is my evil Middle-earth role-play character.
I have a whole backstory, which I can share with you if you ask.
Basically he's the victim of tragedy and bitterness.
He's come to adopt an 'only the strong survive' mentality that makes him heartless.
He doesn't talk much, and basically the only joy he finds is in battle--the thrill of taking life.
The sword he uses is long and thin, and the most dangerous part is the tip.  He uses wide arcing slices, moslty.  It can be a two-handed sword, but he usually uses one hand.  It has no sheath--which is how he likes it.  I really had fun designing it, too--simple and elegant.  ^_^  As another bonus, it's designed to allow blood to flow off the blade, so it doesn't stain.
And, for Tolkien fans, Morikoru Seregond is an Avari elf from the far far east, way beyond Rhûn.
Morikoru is taken from the old Sindarin roots for 'dark' and 'cunning'.  Seregond means "blood of stone;" the people of Rhûn gave him the name upon witnessing how thoroughly heartless and remorseless he was in battle.

As to the drawing of it, I didn't spend much time on the dead folks--half on purpose.  It kind of points to the main character when he's better drawn.  :P  I figured the dead guys are from his latest village slaughter, or something.
I actually drew it with a mechanical pencil.  ^_^
and I used a computer program to make the contrast good, do a bit of cleanup to get the smudges out, and give it a touch of tint.

Wow really nice pic... I like the way he's just sitting there... As if relaxing after a job well done. His sword is really wicked, in both senses 2

1 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Yup, that's about his attitude.Except he probably wouldn't be thinking much. Just looking for the next battle, or kind-of half-thinking about what went on and deciding in his subconscious if he feel guilty at all or not.I'm glad you like the sword! xD"

nice ..i like the relaxed pose of the main figure and the dead really sets the scene of the whole composition .well done Michael

(and as always) welcome to elfwood ;0)

1 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "ah really? Thanks! The pose did take a bit of work. I'm glad you liked it. ^^"

Hey, this is pretty neat! Great cold expression, and you're good at shading. Keep it up!

1 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Why thank you, Theonethatyells. Or should we just call you Yelly Van Hollerlots (á la Animal Crossing). ^_^ The cold expression took a bit of work. I'm glad everyone likes it so much! Thanks for the comment! 1 "

Awesome!!! I love how he looks so calm after finishing those guys off!
And the sword is cool too. Cross between an elven sword and samurai sword.
Love it!!!

7 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Hmm, good comparison for the sword... elvish + japanese. It wasn't my intention, though. I just thought it looked cool, and I wanted a sword that was very long and was most deadly at the tip. A sword to be primarily swung in wide arcs. Anyway, thanks much for the comment, Blade Mage! ^_^"

I love the way you use your pencil its realy nioe the way he sits ther and the others are dead(not that im an sadist but beauthiful truely)

11 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Thanks! I love using pencil! ^^ I almost use a mechanical one, though, so I don't have to sharpen it. xD"

Very impressive...dark and brooding! Keep up the good work!

12 Michael A Rasmussen replies: "I shall indeed! ^_^ I’m glad you like it, Bojana. Fighting and killing is really all this character knows; it’s his only joy. You might say he’s addicted to it--these villagers didn’t do anything; he just had to kill something.
I think he’ll eventually turn good, though."

Very nice composition on this one. It’s simple but still dark and contemplative. Good job. Keep up the work. 2 (And thank you for all your lovely comments in my gallery)

:-) Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Thank you for the lovely comment, Louise! I still can hardly believe I drew this picture myself, lol!

(and it was my pleasure to comment on your work. ^_^)"

Excellent drawing. You clearly have a good grasp on posing and anatomy, and the shading is very well done. The overall feeling of the piece comes across as grim yet relieved. The open space around the central figure stands in great contrast to the chaos on the ground. Keep up the good work.

:-) Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Thank you so much for your detailed analysis! 1
I AM extremely happy with how the pose came out. Mirrors helped a lot. 12

I’d never done someone sitting on a rock before, so I’m glad I took the time to really do a good job.

Actually, since the RP that this character is from never really took off, I’ve begun to sort-of think of him as a hypothetical Dark-Link from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess."

I really like his pose and the overall composition, I think it really suits the character’s attitude as you described it. I also love the care with which you chose the name, mixing these elvish roots, I tend to do such things with Latin & Greek myself sometimes. Lle ume quel. 12

:-) Michael A Rasmussen replies: "I did well? Yay! ^_^

Yes, the naming was very fun. It’s too bad the RP never really got started, BUT, I still have the character! xD"

cool, you are very very good at drawing, but could you help me get published?

:-) Michael A Rasmussen replies: "Nobody can ’help’ you get published here at Elfwood. You publish it yourself for the moderators to approve, and then they put it up in your gallery. You have to have at least four pictures uploaded to have a gallery in the first place, though. Otherwise there would be too few pictures."
