This is an illustration for a story I wrote called 'Reconciliation'. It can be read in my private library, here. The Lady Va'ak is half-human, half-siren. Here, she has returned to her siren roots, and is aiding her sisters by battling off a male who would attack them. The other pictures of the Lady and her world are in my Sci-fi gallery, but this one is really more fantasy.

Done in pencil, colored in PhotoShop, using gradients, burn and dodge, and lighting effects, and layers, wonderful layers.

gasp - this is amazing. all of your work is GORGEOUS, but this one has to be my favorite. the color is obviously wonderful, and the lighting makes it look so real. you're a very talented artist. wow. that drawing is beautiful.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before yet or not, but at first glance, it looks like the two are dancing underwater... that is, up until you notice she is choking him. I thought that thought was mildly amusing. 10 Though you are to be commended on the supreme ability to make it appear underwater. Without even reading the description, I knew it was under water, and I was right. Way to go. One of the other commenters mentioned the man's face was kind of unemotional. If I were being choked, i imagine my mouth would be open, teeth clenched, showing canines in anger.

:-) Lisa Coleman replies: "Yeah, his face is pretty bad, isn't it? I'm finally going back to it, and trying to rework it directly in Photoshop. "

Very dynamic with great colour and light -- strangley partway between being shaded in 3D and rendered in outline?

I wanna know what they're fighting about, but other than that, it's a great painting, I love their tails and wish I had one too. LOL. 12

Wow i love the style of this, it reminds me of old engravings...And the ps coloring adds a nice touch, you choose a good color and direction for the light...
I know what you mean by faking it with photoshop! Its so easy to color now! Good luck to you! Merry holidays!

Hmmm... I was personally thinking that it looked more like SHE was attacking HIM. He almost looks King-like. And she's some kind of deadly assassin. But that was just what I got at first glance. Perhaps if there was a more desperate look on her face it could be easier to tell? Although, it is rather clear after the description. Meh... Just an opinion. I personally think that his face is fine. The face of an attacker should be rather strong and blank.

:-) Lisa Coleman replies: "Well, technically, I would say she IS the one attacking him, or is at least the more successful one. He just made a pathetic attempt to start trouble. 2"

I don't think there is anything wrong with his face, but I have yet to read the story from whence it sprang. It looks to me as if he has mentally given up, and is only holding her wrist because that is where his hand happened to be when he did give up. You've created a very good sense of movement, as well as the depth and the immediate aquatic sense that everybody seems to have previously mentioned.

:-) Lisa Coleman replies: "You know, he does look like he's given up. That kind of disturbs me. In the story he doesn't have much personality, he's just supposed to be this mindless male following his instincts to mate with a female who doesn't want him, and happens to have a bunch of other females with knives to back her up. Now I'm not sure if he would fight to the bitter end, or give in to the cruel, instinctual world their species lives in. I'd feel kind of sorry for him, since he really didn't have a chance."

Very beautiful, overall, but two things. What keeps me from truly believing it's underwater is no wave reflections. Also, it just seems rather odd that he'd have his hand around her as if dancing rather than grabbing her arm to keep he from choking him, or even just trying to push her away in general. Hmm...seems like you have a similar interpretation of sirens as I do (dictionary def. is the bird women from mythology. Not quite harpies).
