| 10 Oct 2005 | Mathias Bär | Loading...Wow. This is pretty amazing.....U wrote, someday u will be able to draw realistic bodies like this, but u already do.....Using a reference helps but its hard enough to get it right on paper, i think its even more difficult to do an exact duplicate. Anyway, this piece is great, shading is done very masterful. Btw thanks for the nice comment in my gallery. Keep it up | |

It's not one particular African tribe that does it (although the ones in Kenya seem to be pretty hot for it) there are loads, and the designs can mean anything from whose son you are to 'don't let the leopards eat this one'. There are even some facial scarifications that are given to children dying of malaria in a last ditch attempt to stop the disease. I think a senior WHO offical in Africa has them on his cheeks, but I can't remember his name. Some simple scarifications, for future interest can be found here : http://www.ancientmarks.com/ Oh and uh, nice pic by the way. Admiring the shading and the pretty electric blue. | |
| 13 Feb 2006 | Jason 'sickleclaws' Robicheaux | Loading...I agree with Sleepless in Nantucket (Who apparently gets around to a few galleries on a regular basis; they have commented in mine as well), Its the Blue Djinn. The ears, the powerful musculature, the... erm, BLUENESS... all point to the Blue Djinn. But I mean My gawd. Dont ever claim that you cant do figures again, lest Athena strike you talentless for claiming that you are when you arent. A) the shading is perfect, and you canNOT get that kind of understanding from just "aping a photograph verbatim (thanks for the quote, Walter! finally had the opportunity to use it.)" it takes further understanding of where things go to get it right when copying, else it will just look like a shoddy attempt to copy. If that makes any sense. Anyway, what I mean in this particular case is the physique. C) It is excruciating enough to make regular skin tones look realistic or at the least convincing, even when thats what you are going for. Please, just do us all a favor and pat yourself on the back. You may just make a fine illustrator someday. | |
