SciFi and Fantasy Art Carnivale by Kimberley Pounder

I'm thinking of creating a new character/race of people that have some sort of connections with wearing masks...I have a few ideas on the subject:

a. The mask is a source of power
b. The mask covers the deformity/beauty of the individual [as a result of the power/type of the individuals magic]
c. The race is innately magical, but the mask allows them on certain 'holy' or 'religious' days to commune with their gods
d. A disguise

Or maybe it is all four? I don't know, I guess I'll just have to see how this character developes, mayhap she could have some connection with my other planned character?
