Images of the jackal diety have appeared on Egyptian buildings for eons but nobody has been able to discern where the inspiration came from.  Nobody to this day has been able to comprehend the history of the race of great beings that inspired the legends behind Anubis, Sobek, Sehkmet, the Apis Bull of Sakkara and many others.  They were ambassadors from a civilization much older than man's and technologically far in advance of anything we have today.  A well developed culture that until the time of ancient Egypt had sucessfully hidden it's existance from the notice of men, but they knew it would not last.

Before there could be any kind of conflict between man and these great creatures.  Ambassadors were sent on first contact missions to the then greatest civilization of man, Egypt was the choice.  The first anthropomorphic animals to appear caused a great shock in Egyptian culture and history. Some of these beings were giants who stood as tall as 10 feet. Were very learned and posessed knowledge of medical science and technical skill that the Egyptian rulership and priests saw as miraculous.  Their mere size and demeanor was powerful and yet they were patient with their wary human hosts.  Relations went well, but there was a constant underlying tension that existed because the Egyptian people were misinterpreting them.

These great beings had to constantly remind the people of Egypt that they were not gods. They were only flesh and blood creatures with a deeper understanding of the world and yet they were still seen as divine.  Religious and political tensions were caused by sects of the Egyptian priesthood who broke away from tradtional worship to start new sects. These new sects worshiped the anthros as gods, thus the images of them were carved into the walls of many buildings that we have discovered in the present day.  The artwork on this page shows Anubis wearing some of the jewelry that was given to him by the Egyptian rulers and priests.  It is likely that he has just come from a temple gathering or an important state function considering that he seems to be dressed in some of his best finery.

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "Yes indeed, I somehow find it appropriate that my pictures got approved and loaded on Halloween. Glad you stopped by for a look at my scribbles. "

Nice concept, well done. Congrats for the MP 1

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "I thank you, the MP shocked the hell out of me in a good way! You have some pretty fine looking Derwent colored pieces in your gallery, I’ll have to go in for a closer look at some of them when I can get more browse time and not when I’m swamped with projects , blargh! "

i love his happy grin! and the story attatched 2

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "I wanted to make him look more approachable and show him in a way that most would not expect. As for the story, its a cool alternate timeline possibility that I came up with. "

Hey! Good one!-- It’s my favorite mythological deity! -- It’s nice to have seen a picture of old sir’ Anubis like this 1. I rarely see and depict pictures of the gods and goddesses in a happy mood or smiling; a new concept to look forward to I say. Thanks and Congratulations!

But I do have a question: those string-like strands on his head; are those dreadlocks, a royal nemes (blue and gold) headress or the coif in which Anubis is usually depicted to be wearing?

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "His hair has been colored to a blue tint that looks better with the gold bands that keep it in that shape and look. I always pictured him as having long black hair that he would regularly fuss over.

Thanks for the congrats, I like him looking happier as well. "

I really enjoy this picture, and I love the story behind it as well. He also seems a tad uneasy as well. I love his ears c:

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "He could be uneasy about having his picture rendered or about some other concern. The story is something that I thought up as an alternate history type thing that jibes with some of the current day knowledge about these deities...with ears like that you’d imagine his hearing must be amazing. "

Of all pictures of Anubis I’ve seen in the ’wood, this is the best one 1. Congratulations with your Mod Pick!

:-) Aert Lope Revell replies: "Thanks, I have tried to present him in a more realistic light as if he were a living being and not the darker brooding and nebulous personality so often presented. . . I was happy with the mod pick, first time I ever put anything here and they liked it! "
