| 29 Nov 2004 | Heini ´Silveriatha´ Liimatta | Welcome to Elfwood! You have a very good start here. I like your use of colors very much, you have a good touch there. You should maybe practice a bit on anatomy. Keep up drawing, waiting to see more! Laura Watkins replies: "Thanks! Will do." | |
| 29 Nov 2004 | J. dela calzada | Hello. Care for some constructive criticism and miscellaneous comments? Well anyway, I AM going to post some. Comment 1 - I noticed that most of your fairies have the same faces. You used a model and I think it's you. Constructive Criticism 1 - You need to work on your proportions. Some body parts are bigger than the others. Others look crooked or are abnormally, impossibly positioned, e.g., the Fairy with the black pearls. Her left shoulder look like it's been dislocated or something. Comment 2 - You have a good grasp of color schemes. I like your choices. Constructive Criticism - You need to work on your shading...if you want realistic drawings. Or if not, then don't do anything. They look good at their present state. Laura Watkins replies: "Thanks for your detailed look, I appriciate the feedback. Just so you know, my mother and my husband agree that they all look like me, but I guess I stare at my own face more then any other face... As far as the poses and proportions are concerned, on most of these paintings I was standing in the mirror, or posing for my camera phone to get the poses. But, the good news is that last week I got 2 excellent books of poses. In case anybody wants to check them out..."Figures in Motion" and "Virtual Pose 3". It was exactly what I needed to get me away from the mirror, and not dependent on another artist for pose reference. And I know my shading is all messed up, the light doesn't really follow the shadows, I need to take an art class or something! Thanks again." | |

| 2 Dec 2004 | Lloyd Dennis Zacarias | Wow! That dela calzada fellow realy dug down deep for that comment. Hehehehehe...Don't ponder it too long Laura I think he was just trying to be helpful...I hope. Anyways I just went through your gallery and your art is pretty good. You just need a bit more practice is all. In one of your replys you said you sometimes rely on other artists for your poses. Nothing wrong with that as artists have done that since even the pre Raphaelites so always take critism with good heart and if the critism goes too far then take it with a grain of salt. By the way if you want to read realy good and hilarious critism, check out O and O's comments about my stuff, he doesn't mean well and he definately isn't trying to be helpful although he hasn't commented since I got the Mod's Choice. Hehehehehe...revenge is sweet. Laura Watkins replies: "Thank you, I checked out your gallery, I like it! I used to only copy other artists to get my technique down, now I only do my own stuff, and it isn't quite as good, but I guess thats going to improve the more I draw." | |
| 5 Dec 2004 | H. Max Poirot | Great stuff. Is that water color? I could never do that. I think water color is one of the hardest things to master. I would love to see more variety in your creatures but everything I see so far, I like. Laura Watkins replies: "Thanks, yes it is all watercolor. As for variety... I keep thinking about other stuff I want to paint, but I keep on coming up with another fairy first. I guess practice will be the key." | |
