This is a highly symbolic piece, covering--so far as I can recall--three different Coyote legends. The star and moon represent the tale where Coyote rides a star, the yellow waves along his side are from the story of how Coyote brought man fire, and the bloody feather and the wind represent the legend of how Coyote made Death permanent. Mixed media, consisting of a combination of prismacolor markers, cheap gel pen, colored pencil, and digital rendering. Wee!

A lot of people have requested permission to use this image for tattoos.  If you are interested in using this picture as a tattoo, please, absolutely, feel free to do so.  I am honored that a picture so meaningful to me has proven meaningful to others as well.  Of course, I appreciate being told when someone is having one of my pictures done as a tattoo, so feel free to drop me a line.

I love this piece it is wonderful. I really like how you included three myths of coyotes and the colors and patterns are just amazing. Way to go!!!

:-) Lydia 'Prairieghost' Jacobs replies: "I'm so glad you appreciate it ^_^ I am quite pleased with this pic and it's good to know someone else is as well."

wow... I really like this. It's truelly a beautiful work of art! It's paws kind of look like hooves though, which I actually like ^_^

I love those myths too.

Something about the legs reminds me off a zebra. The body art looks more African than Native American. Maasai? I'm not sure.

:-) Lydia 'Prairieghost' Jacobs replies: "You'll find that in a lot of cultures, there are similarities between their styles in art and music, even if they never actually interacted. As for the striped legs, take a look at the striped stockings worn by hopi Kachina dancers and it may make more sense."

I don't usually comment on pics, but I really loved this one. I recently took a class about myths and legends and we read quite a few that featured Coyote. Great job bringing out his many qualities!

I would absolutely love to use this on a tour of American Legends and Folklore I’m making at the moment. I wondered if you had any objections? It’s still in the works so feel free to contact me whenever you find time.

I love this piece of work, I really do! I’ve always been into mythology, and the Coyote stories are a neglected treasure. I hope you don’t mind, but I altered this drawing slightly and had a tattoo done of it (I wouldn’t have dreamed to change it if it weren’t for the fact that there was just too much detail to fit a tattoo of this anywhere other than the broad of my back.) This was my first tattoo, and I got it with my parents at the same parlor that did my Mom’s latest and my Sister’s first tattoos. (Being raised in a family of bikers does strange things to one’s idea of "Normal"12

:-) Lydia 'Prairieghost' Jacobs replies: "Wow, that is so great! No, I don’t mind at all! I’m honored that you liked this image enough to want it to be a part of you, even if it was slightly modified to fit! ^_~ Thanks for the great comment--you really made my day!"
