This is a Polterra, he's a creature from my fantacy story titled 'Nevermore'. The poltarra are immortal creature's that will live on and on as long as they are content, most often Polterra will only die after loseing one who was very close to them, then they pine away and die of sadness. This Poterra is still young at a few hundred years old. he has seen most all of his race hunted to extinction by men, for the price of their fur and bones. He now finds contentment in misery and affliction, He spent countless years as a slave and was raised as such by vile, loveless men, He was taught to kill at a young age by his master,, and was passed down from father to son as a heirloom slave, or sold for coin and lost to other men in gambling, but his taks changed little  from master to master, violence and death were his trademark. until at last  -and well over due- he slaughtered his final master along with the wretched mans entire family, setting the house a blaze and killing them as they burned. Then he set out to find what was left of his kind, but with each year that passed, and still no sign, he slowly began his fall into deeper madness, then one village at a time, takes is vengence on humanity, his goal is to drive them into extinction as they have done to his kind. But it's an imossable task, there are just too many. Although, in time he finds just the weakness he is looking for, mans willingness to war, and how easly they can be set against each other. By his reconing, his hand alone he has killed tens of thousands over the last few hundered years, but in his recent scheming and misdeeds, has killed tens of tens of thousands in only a few days... perhaps his goal is within reach after all. Today his kills a young prince, and carries his body to hang from the walls of a neighboring city gate. "It must be WAR!" they'll cry, then he will sit on a hill side with a light snack, and giggle as he watches the the great play unfold for his sick ammusement.

This Creature is no the oldest Charicter i've been drawing, but it ihas been the longest one in development. id guess I started drwing this beast back as far as 1995. it looked more like ALIEN and had blue skin, walked on all fours and was huge. a shot time later It was walking on two legs. A few years after that I shrunk it down to just a few feet tall, turned it green and added ears later fur. Then minor modifications to the head since then (I cant decide on it.) This is the final product so far. but who knows where it'll go from here.

I like this creature, you did an excellent job overall.

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "Thankyou, it means a lot to me. This is one of my favorite creatures, I hope to be doing more of him in the future."

You’re more than welcome.

You know, this art style reminds me slightly of Tony Diterlizzi. But that’s a really cute lil’ critter there, I like the design. Especially the placement of the eye and the head shape.

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "I have more art of this little fellow on the way. He’s very old and lived to see all the ages of man, So i get to draw him in almost any context, the next one is Sci-fi, and is being run through the mods now, it’ll be a few weeks though. But I’m very pleased you like it. I recieve so little feed back on him. any is appreciated. Thanks."

Kind of like Reepicheep after a real good fight. Love the detail on the weapons, you can almost hear the creaking of the leather bindings.

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "I love adding detail to the weapon, its one of my favorite things when it comes to drawing them. make knives, but now this is all thats left of that hobbie. "

I like this character, I like the uniqueness of his race, something I don’t see enough of, and frankly am too afraid to add into my own fantasy stories. Nevertheless it is a fantastic drawing, I cant wait to see some more recent stuff!

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "I enjoy this caharactor, though I dont do as much art with him as i would like. I’m trying to be a little more deverse in my art, and refrain from drawing too much of just one thing. Though I would love to do a lot of art with this charactor, I force myself to keep it to a minimum."

He reminds me of an immortal, crazed version of the Redwall mice. Very nice work!

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "Yes he is immortal in terms of long life, but can be killed with some difficuly. And yes, he’s quite insain after a live of violence ordered by his masters. His life was one of pain, suffering and misery. so it really came as no surprize when he atlast took his vengence the only way he knew how, the way he had been taught.

I dont know about the red wall mice. I’ve never read it. But storys are bound to cross paths somewhere. No matter how a writer may try to be original, they are bound to stumble into another authors similiar work.

But I’m glad you like this piece. its one of my favorites. "

Redwall is a fantastic series, worth checking out. And it’s definitely not a bad thing- in fact, it’s still completely original. Something to be proud of.

:-) Michael J Routley replies: "Well, I’ll have to have a look into it, thanks."
