'...and in a feat of great courage and wonderous strength, the halfling Alia Hillsborn lifted her fallen comrade-in-arms, the barbarian Beota Holmgardt, and bore her lifeless body away from that terrible place of death, and she mourned deeply for the loss of her friend.'

-From 'Chronicles of the Holmgardt Clan.'

It is certainly rotton when your character dies, but it does provide a vast amount of artistic fodder. I got a new set of graphite pencils last week and spent several days trying them out on this piece, which doubles as a study in clothing folds and foreshortening. Anyone who imagines they see the influence of Michelangelo here would be very close to hitting the mark. And I must say, Beota doesn't look too badly off considering she just had her throat ripped out - eh, I just didn't feel like attempting to draw such gore.

One of your best pieces. The shading here is awesome, as is the detail. Very nicely done.

:-) Meredith A. Bailey replies: "Thank you very much! I did spend significantly longer on this than most of the other pencil sketches here. I'm not entirely satisfied with Alia's face - her nose is off, and, naturally, I the more I fiddled with it, the worse it got! "

Great picture, I love the pencil work, absolutely awesome. Great style too, it looks distinct and unique.

Alia's face is pointed slightly away from the veiwer, as she sadly looks at her fallen companion. Her nose, however, is still pointed at us. Not a big twist there, but that is why it looks slightly off. Nice job nonethelss.

:-) Meredith A. Bailey replies: "Yep, that's it exactly! Thanks for the tip and the comments1"

It's nice, and the detail is good, but the heads look too large to me. Nice job though, it's still nice.

12 Meredith A. Bailey replies: "Yeah, they probably are - actually, I know they are. I still have pretty massive problems with proportion, but I'm getting better, gradually... Thank you for the visit! 2"
