This is meant as a first attempt to write something about a world/scenario I've been thinking about. Loosely based on an idea from a game, but taking it one step (or more) further, it's a place in which what exists is that which its inhabitants believe to exist. I plan on having a go at writing some short stories happening in this place, and perhaps about how it is, and why it is what it is. The name of the poem, oniria, came naturally as a possible name for this odd, queer place.

one day a dream
the next a scene
so much illusion
as it's reality

beliefs and legends
are hard as stone
while walls just vanish
when thoughts are gone

may all be welcome
in this odd land
be not forgotten
lest you be banned

Finally here to comment! I like the language and style. The rhythm vaguely reminds of a song. I might be wrong but it bears some similarities to Berkley’s philosophy. Have you ever read anything of him?

I... think I’ve only heard of Berkley’s philosophy through other people’s works (namely, I think I remember reading about him in Sophie’s World). It does bear some similarities with his philosophy, I now see! Even though that wasn’t in any way intentional =)

As for language and style.... seriously? Thanks a lot! Is there anything in special you like?

Nice pick of words, I’d say sophisticated (particularly in the first verse). And ’lest’ -- I like it a lot! Nobody uses it anymore, 2 however it fits well here.
