Pencil, ball point pen. This is a rough sketch that I did to experiment with the capabilities of the ball point pen. Hopefully, further efforts will yeild better results! I intend to do another version, but I have some issues about draconian anatomy that need to be figured out, first! I'll also remind myself to keep a closer eye on proper perspective...

Ball point pens rock creative-wise, very underrated and
largely unrealized tool. I like this one a ton, very dramatic and heroic feeling. Your use of lighting is
impressive as well. Nicely done!

:-) John P Manning replies: "What I like about ball points is the fact that they are easy to get a hold of. They don't seem so good for finer details (depends on how fine the point is, I guess). I'll experiment more with them and post them here. Glad you liked the lighting effect!"

OOOOoooooo.....he must be wetting his pants right now. That is one huge dragon!! But he's a hero right and miracles happen. Very dramatic and i like the dark lightning kinda like a reflection of the mood that he has little hope.Great work with a ballpoint pen! ^_____^

:-) John P Manning replies: "Our chivalrous friend is indeed a hero, so we can hope that he will ultimately triumph, or at least survive this encounter mostly intact. Glad you liked the lighting effect!"

O.o is it just me or is there a tiny little knight in the bottom right corner looking quizicly at the tail. Then all of a sudden *CRUNCH* bye bye....

If not ignore me... but it really looks like a very small dude with a pony tail.

:-) John P Manning replies: "You are quite right: there is a little knight at the bottom right, probably wondering why he didn't stay in bed that morning! Thanks for stopping by!"

Your pens deserve praise. XD As do you! This looks just awesome! Spectacular...

:-) John P Manning replies: "Well, thank you once again! If I've managed to entertain a viewer for even a short while, I feel the effort was well worth it. 2"

You did that with a ball-point? Absolutly incredible, 'tis truly amazing. The dragon is great. Wonderful.

:-) John P Manning replies: "Well, first I did a pencil drawing, and then used a ball-point pen, but you probably already knew that. I'll have to try some further work with ball-point pens; they can be wonderful for subtler shading, but a right pain at times..."

lol an experiment? geez i wish my experiments turned out like that. the dragon is really amazing. It really shows of strength and power..noone can rock his world thats for sure..i noticed the way ud made the wings and his arms attached to the body-now that is primework so is the wingspan..i hope you have plans to do more work this style...

:-) John P Manning replies: "At this moment, I don't happen to have any plans for more pen and ink drawings, but that could very well change...12"

I love dragons! The fear, the tyranny, the power, the strength you've all managed to instill in this dragon. I like how the massive body of the dragon and the ruins in the background create a border for the knight who indeed looks pretty bewildered - and who can blame him?
A great work for a rough sketch 2

:-) John P Manning replies: "Dragons do seem to be what generates the most excitement, at least as far as my gallery goes. It's tempting to draw nothing but dragons, but then I'd just be a one-trick pony! Still, I do have a couple of ideas for future dragon-pics. Stay tuned!"

This is sure a kick ass picture!
I really like this style of shading.
I'm trying to do something like that lately, based on vagabond manga.
about Dragon anatomy, they don't have such long necks. one point i think you've mede right was his chest that is really big. between the chest and the legs is very thin. the tail is way long. the wings must have at least the size of the dragon..

a flaw a can see there is the tail that gets thinner all of sudden..

mine dragons are also bad..but living and learning, as it is said

:-) John P Manning replies: "I must have skipped that class in biology... Just kidding. I'm glad that you like the picture, although I confess that I am not satisfied with it. I suppose that's part of being an "artist" (I use the term loosely): you are never truly satisfied with what you do. Cheers!"

The sketchy effect of the ball point makes the scene look foggy..Whether it was intentional, it makes the pic look really really cool!!!!!!
