Tina:

Odd comment, I'm sure but: Congrats on having the guts to know what's not you (re: college). I mean you DID say you could always return, if you chose to.

A lot of folks have done fine without their Doctorates. Ibsen, Budda, umm, Shakespeare, Mary Tyler Moore... (-:

I especially liked your piece "What tha_" -- otherwise labeled Tika...

Best wishes to ya' in all you do! Just keep trusting yer gut.

So, I see you've been hit by the ERB demolition unfair biased team, eh? Gee, you'd think that instead of forcing the pictures to be taken down they would simply ask you REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO PERN. There are so many artist who've become favorites and 'elfwood elite' that have non fantasy, all sorts of crap in their galleries, yet, they are not targeted for removals. This is not fair to you. This is not fair to anyone who has worked hard on their creations and want to post them. It's not fair to those who would view them, as they miss out on seeing some good works. I hope to see these works reposted each and everytime they get taken down as protest - with the Pern label removed. What does it matter if it's Pernese, DragonLance based or just a 'dragon'? Grrr. Screw the ERB, they don't really care about what they're doing to peoples' galleries.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the Pern drawings. I remember them well. I had heard previously of McCaffrey's miserly attitude towards Pern fanart and fanfiction, and personally think that it's self-defeating and less than classy. I've never read her work, but let's just say h*e*l*l will freeze over before I'd even open one of her books after hearing this.

Some nice work.
I'm sorry to hear that some of your (potentially) best ones have been removed. Although it does state in the rules that no Pern art is allowed. I personally, find that a 'miserly' attitude as well, but what can one do about it? 8 And yes, I agree, the ERB do spend a lot of time doing I-don't-know-what. There's an awful lot of -frankly- rubbish on EW. Sad, but true.

As I see, you have a lot of promise, especially, as you've admitted yourself, in creatures and animals rather than in human figures. Your humans are okay, but your real talent really lies in the dragons and horses here. Lovely animal studies, I wish I had that talent with them too.
Keep up the good work 2

About your comments:

I don't know how much you've even looked into McCaffrey's copyrights, but if you had at all, you'd know that she and her family are -not- the ones banning Pern art. Her advisors are. Furthermore, they have every right to do so. she created the characters, and her advisors obviously saw them being threatened. They are lovable characters, and this wonderful woman deserves full rights to them. Unless you have written a series in equal popularity, I don't think you deserve to clout such tactics. Sorry if you are angry because you aren't allowed to take McCaffrey's characters for yourself, but that's the law. That's how it works. And it wasn't even the decision of 'those greedy McCaffreys', who, might I add, have shared with you and the rest of the world their novels. Doesn't seem greedy to me.

Just thought I'd inform you of such. The gallery, I might add, is doing well. My only suggestion is to incorperate a few more colors into the skin tones of your dragons--nothing is entirely one color. Try using purples and blues for shadows rather than dark greens on your green dragon and see what you think.

15 Tina M. Waite replies: "Oh, wow... I kinda forgot I still have this thing here! In any case, yes: I HAVE looked into the copyright. Last I read it, it said that a disclaimer has to be put somewhere, no characters can be taken from the books, and not to use Benden or Ruatha. Well, I put the disclaimer in, and the pictures I had up were of... dragons? People with dragons on their shoulders? None of them in any way resembling any characters from the books? I never have and never even thought of drawing a picture of Lessa or Mnementh or Robinton... a nice lady by the name of Robin Wood did quite a good enough of an interpretation to make me not HAVE to put the way I imagine them on paper, as that's pretty much the way I imagined them.. My pictures were removed simply because I put 'the idea for this picture was inspired by Anne McCaffrey's World of Pern' in the description.

As for greed vs 'following advice'... hmm... go to http://www.austinleatherworks.com/ ... read the lawsuit... then see if you can find anything on google about shoulder flits, and read that lawsuit. Judge for yourself.

Do I think a person greedy for making a life for themselves? No. Do I find a person greedy or/and bipolar after reading that, and having seen a little of what goes on behind the scenes? (loooong story, there)? Yes. Oh! And for added amusment, do a search for "Anne McCaffrey" and "Tent Peg" in google... ahem.

In any case, thanks for the tip! If I can ever find the origional files for these pics I'll try them... those were my first attempts at computer drawing/coloring, and I LIKE to think my skill has improved a little since... I suppose it would help if I like, updated or something. Donno. 2"

It seems you haven't updated this since that comment in May... However, I decided to post something to tell you that McAffrey has changed her rules, and fan-art *can* be drawn and uploaded to, among all other places, Elfwood.

I would be interested to see some of your newer works, it would be interesting if you left your old ones as a comparison but I can understand why if remove them... 12

And yes, that's my email address ATM. I lost password for my main one, and spam starts to steadily come into anything I put to pbulic, so I have to use hotmail for Elfwood comments. Pity. 8

Here is my daily advice maybe you shouldnt draw, or practice and then post your pictures.

43 Tina M. Waite replies: "Here's MY advice: Maybe you shouldn't speak English; or practice and then post your pointless comments.Snap!Anyway, learn to read too. Seriously. This is only a few of my things, and they're all early stuff - everything else was deleted in that fiasco a few years back.In the mean time, I should really update this thing, or get rid of it. Meh.LMAOLOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111oneone!!11eleven!"
