SciFi and Fantasy Art Lahraena by Mark Ivan Cole


	This is the original sketch of what I hope will become a larger piece with a complete background at some point. It's currently outlined in ink with minor shading done in graphite. I had lots of fun designing the [admittedly utterly impractical!] outfit. Many thanks again to my wife for modeling for me. Original size: 11x14 inches/27.9x35.6cm

22 Jun 2002	Excelsior Glitch	Loading... Oooo boy, why are all the good (pointy-eared) ones taken! Yeesh, all this while I'm thinking, "I'll go to beauty school, and then I'll be surrounded by girls!" But no, it turns out that these artists guys get all the scantily clad and weapon-bearing maidens. She is tops in my book, any day! Now, I've got a few things to say about wearing costumes and handling a sword. Why not? Who's to say she's a fighter, anyway? Maybe she's in a fashion show and swords are all the rage. Maybe her tribe fights naked and that's body paint you're looking at. Maybe she sent this picture to the leader of her enemy to seduce him, capture him, cook him, eat him, conquer his lands and enslave his people. Those are just the first possibilities that spring to mind. So, quit worrying about realism in fantasy art already.
