Some centurys ago portuguese explorers were trying to pass trough the Cape of Good Hope, in South Africa, but it was terrible place, known as Cape of Storms, so they thought there was a monster, Giant Adamastor (Lusíadas, by Luís de Camões), who were the cause of all the disasters in the area.
