Mark often puts as much effort into the background landscape as he does into the main figure.

Like a lot of folks, I've been doing fantasy art since I was a child. Much of the work you see below is done in colored pencil on hot-pressed watercolor paper. A few pieces are done in alkyd paint, an epoxy-based medium similar to oils. Recently, I've been concentrating on soft pastels as in 'Kasseya's Sword' and "Eleanor." My love of the landscape creeps into almost every picture. My wife and I love exploring inspiring places. Right now we're happy to be within a couple of hours of Yosemite Valley in the Sierras. For more landscapes, please visit my homepage. I seem to be doing more sketches than finished fantasy work these days. So many irons in the fire...! Updates to this page come sporadically as time allows. Cheers!

what date did you paint the "further in point Lobos"? and why it is not here?
23 Sep 2009:-) Mark Ivan Cole
Hi, Adrian--
"Further In, Pt. Lobos" was painted about four months ago from a picture taken on a hike about two years ago. It isn’t on Elfwood because it’s not fantasy art. My landscape paintings are currently viewable on http://www.markivancole.comMissing !. Most of my current paintings are on there. However, "Further In, Pt. Lobos" and "Chimney Rock," which are currently hanging at the Mistlin Gallery, are not posted. The site will be moving to a new host, so it will undergo a pretty significant update soon. Thanks for asking. --Mark Ivan Cole
