WARRIORS IN SPACE – CHAPTER 11
Therefore, next morning the pegamoids with their reinforcements arrived from the other territories, performed the project imitating the warrior strategy. One squadron hid into the Dried Woods, while another one surrounded the place, closing the trap. Some hours later the humans appeared, ignoring the danger they would run.
A soldier passed in front of them, as fast as it could; people didn’t doubt and pursued it. After a long walk they found it next to another two more. In that place the three were murdered by the hunters, without realizing the hidden regiment was emerging among the fallen trees. When the group noticed it, it was too late.
–My God, they’re too many!– Bahrdenke exclaimed.
–They have us surrounded! What do we do?– Takuma asked.
–Fight!– Rinako shouted, knowing they wouldn’t have another choice.
It was an unequal battle that lasted many hours; in the afternoon, the youngsters were gaining ground, but then pegamoids called the second regiment and the humans, frightened, decided to flee and return to shelter. However the cavern was in the other side of the woods…
Suddenly, a daring hunter climbed on top of a tree, and waving his arms began to shout, doing that friends and enemies would turn to see him.
–Coward stupid beasts, catch me if you can!– he cried –Forget them and come for me!
At first the soldiers didn’t take notice of him, but as the boy continued insulting them, emitted a ferocious scream and ran to punish the offender. The other hunters were open-mouthed because of scare. They couldn’t believe what were seeing, but knew that his reckless partner just tried to save their life.
–Sauru, what the hell are you doing?– asked Shania, distressed.
–For heavens sake, they are going to kill you!– Allasteh exclaimed.
Then the Japanese boy ran chased by the monsters; without stopping, he gave a desperate order to his friends:
–DAMN IT! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR RUNAWAY? I’M NOT GOING TO REPEAT IT, IDIOTS!
Immediately all fled in direction to the grotto; Sauru had gotten that his enemies don’t care about them, so they found the way free. When crossed the river, they finally felt out of danger, but there was an unsolved task: to rescue their partner.
On the other hand, the boy’s audacity had severe consequences. In his crazy race, Sauru fell into a ditch, and just in a second the pegamoids reached and surrounded him. The next thing the poor man could feel was hundreds of hits, pulls and scratches in his body. They had him well grasped, so he couldn’t anything but scream; his howls could be listened in several kilometers around, but hunters didn’t hear him because they were very far from there. Some moments later, when those beasts thought he was dead, they moved away, leaving on his own, at the mercy of the cold weather.
Meanwhile in the cavern, Balubaki took care of the rebel leader, who was slightly wounded during the last battle, and Kaefer helped her. Suddenly everyone was alarmed when saw the exhausted and weak warriors arriving, and noticed the disheartened expression in their eyes.
–What happened to you?– Azura asked –What’s the matter?
With broken voice and about to cry, Okatu said:
–They defeated us… We fell in a trap… We couldn’t defend ourselves…
–WAIT A MOMENT!– Balubaki interrupted –ONE OF YOU IS MISSING!
–What? … Who?– the leader was getting more puzzled.
–The boy in the green sweater!
–Sauru! That’s true…– continued the elf girl
–We must seek him… He saved us from Death…
–And how did he do it?– Mary Elizabeth asked.
–Well… He insulted the pegamoids and…– Morgan described the action of the unlucky Asian man.
The Blue captain walked through the room with thoughtful gesture while heard the story.
–Listen: if we hurry to go, perhaps we may find him alive– she said.
–Would it be possible?– the warriors exclaimed, recovering the Hope.
–Yes! When somebody hurts the pegamoid’s pride, they punish by giving a terrible thrashing; then they leave him alone, expecting the caused wounds end his life, and later they pick his body up to burn it.
–So let’s organize the rescue!– exclaimed Azura, standing up out of the bed –We’ll go in groups of three. Don’t worry about me, Balu; my wound is not serious. You and Uzbeko will remain here to watch.
Before leaving, they sent the small mecha to explore the area; some minutes later, finally assured that no wild creatures were in view, warriors departed to look for their lost friend.
