My first watercolor with colors!!! YAY!!! (and corrected with Paint, please don't laugh...)

Someone told me once that Legolas was brown. Well, I'm sorry to say this, but when I read the books, and it was before seeing the movie or any picture of it, I imagine him blonde. HOWEVER, I wanted not that picture to look like Mr Bloom, so I did Legolas brown. An (amazing) elfwood artist, Carolyn Anderson, has the exact book reference I was thinking of when doing this pic on her gallery, so I kinda stole it from there, not having the English version of FOTR, so here it is:

'Frodo looked up at the Elf standing above him, as he gazed into the night, seeking a mark to shoot at. HIS HEAD WAS DARK, crowned with sharp white stars that glittered in the black pools of the sky behind... Suddenly the great bow of Lorien sang. Shrill went the arrow from the elven-string.'
JRR Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring, Ch. IX, The Great River

Does 'dark head' stands for dark hair, or dark expression? In fact, the only connection that Legolas has with the movie Legolas are those fruits and my very very bad sense of humor. In case you get it, IT WAS NOT INTENDED, I REALISE IT AFTER, WHEN IT WAS TOO LATE *big drama music*

I like this a lot better than the pencil one. It seems to come to life and I preferr him having brown hair to blonde. I have yet to figure out why most everyone think's Elves have to have blonde hair. From what I've read over the years about Elves or Folklore they come in all sizes shapes and colors as does the color of their hair. It just depends on what part of the world you are in as to what Elves look like or any other fantasy beings for that matter.

Ee! Awesome! I've always loved Legolas (I've had a crush on the Book!Version for...five years? The movie one's a tad too serious). I have always imagined him a blond too, honestly, since his pa (hee, love that word) Thranduil has "golden hair" (from the Hobbit), there is no actual evidence he had brown hair--the passage you mentioned in English says his hair was dark, but take into consideration it was so dark out that not even /Legolas/ could see what he shot, 'tis no big deal his hair color wasn't recognizable.

Only the small problem of only the Vanya having blond hair.

Bah, Tolkien said it, we can steal it--hee! ^^

Sorry, was rambling there. Yes! Love his pose there, great expression, and cool-if-rather-funky-looking trees. ^^ You captured him fully.

-TL, she who likes to babble--apologies!

I commend you for drawing him in a different way then depicted.. I, like you, also imagined him a blondie, but change isn't to be feared... in fact, I thought I read somewhere in LotR that he had blonde hair... I think it was around the Council of Elrond. You could check it out, or just shrug you shoulders and draw him with half brown, half blonde hair... I would laugh! "Legolas with a bad dye job!"... hilarious.
Beautiful picture. Excellent watercolors.

As a lifelong fan of the book I can honestly say this is the best Legolas pic I've seen to date. Lovely.

Awsome watercolors!! I imagined Legolas as a blonde, especially after seeing the movie, but hey! change is good. Right? Legolas is hot either way. Wish i could paint like that!
