| 14 Sep 2009 | John R Farley Jr | Loading...Hello Matthias. Last year you might remember a model I did called a Heavy Service Tractor. It had only four wheels. I wanted to add another set of wheels but didn’t have them. You had made the comment about it looking more powerful with a second set of wheels. So here is the rebuilt model with a double axle: http://www.elfwood.com/~johntex/Heavy_Service_Vehicle_3.28663- - 12.html Now next year I want to rebuild this again, with dual wheels and a double axle. I also want to build it larger. Matthias Schmidt replies: "Recently I saw a crane truck with six axles or so driving next to me on the highway. That was an impressive vehicle." | |

It’s those digging machines with the 20 meter rotating bucket wheel. The whole thing travels on treads and is just a huge machine. I love those crane trucks, the ten huge wheels and they way they bounce on the road. PLus there’s that one-ton block with the hook on the front. Such a powerful and large vehicle. Matthias Schmidt replies: "These brown coal diggers are plowing through my neighbourhood." | |

| 25 Sep 2009 | John R Farley Jr | Loading...From Merriman’s page: ’’To be exact: Germany=Deutschland, Netherlands=Nederland, Holland=Holland, Spain=España (note the tilde!) *clears throat* ’’ Haven’t figured out how to do the tilde on a Mac. Anyway, I thought Holland, was Nederlands. Or is it some mini-country like Andorra which is between Spain and France? Matthias Schmidt replies: "Actually, Holland is a part of Netherlands. It’s like saying "England" and meaning "Great Britain" or "United Kingdom". Quite a lot of people - especially in Germany - say "Holland" and mean "Netherlands." It’s shorter and a habit held dear." | |
