Slave to the Scribe

The candle sweats a thick white pearl
Silky grey billows upwards curl
Blackened wick, red-hot head alight
A sultry yellow sphere glows bright

The feather glides, aroused it flies
Like moth in light its true bliss lies
Its tip revels, curls vividly
Confined by mind - 'tis bigotry

The paper traps such flow to keep
Arid parchment breathes bare and deep
Puffed it stifles ink’s sodden stroke
In words and lines it finds its cloak

Now scribe carouses in his feat
His work is done, the script complete
Candle snuffed, feather dried - dull eyed
Paper stashed; ‘til next they abide

Constant rhyming, rhythm, and meter, incredible vocabulary...I think I'm in love. XD

Well, Brian Buckley is quite the authority, as we aspiring [*cough*wannabe*cough*] poets know.

After reading this, I am quite sure you are up there as well. Nice job!

12 Adrian H. Wood replies: "Wow thanks a lot! I don't think I'm quite up to Brian's standards yet - I'm a raw rookie after all - but I'm touched and flattered...*sigh*"

Hee, that's what I feel like sometimes. No criticism, just a comment on a great poem.

12 Adrian H. Wood replies: "don't we all...thanks for the comment!"

Very cool...I like the process that flows through this. (process flowing?? rite...) Grr, I need to write more, that's what this makes me think of.

:-) Adrian H. Wood replies: "cheers! *shoes you off to go write more* - just trying to help 12"

yeah! something which rhymns! I really don't understand poetry all that well, so I'm always so glad when there are a few rhymning words in there to help carry me along =) This was nice though-you made the writing feel somewhat ethereal and magical even though it was only taking pen to paper. Something about this poem made me imagine a late night, a dark room, and a still hand dipping quill to parchment. Wonderful imagery!

Good work!

:-) Adrian H. Wood replies: "That's exactly what I envisaged writing this as well! It's great when people 'get' your poems and I'm glad you liked it! Long live the rhymes..."

The shineyness of your poems amuse me. I need to get a scrobe, i can't type and my handwriting is awful

:-) Adrian H. Wood replies: "Haha! I hear you can buy them from your local Woolworth's. Two for the price of one. "

11 Adrian H. Wood replies: "Well... SOOOOORYYYY! I'll do my best to please you but unortunately it does take longer to write than read 12"

13 Adrian H. Wood replies: "Thanks! Tiger Eye Chapter One should be up by around tomorrow or 2 days at the latest, so keep ya eyes peeled for that one. I'm also working on your poem and more WFSB, so calm yourself young one"
