This is a portrait of the youthful Amenhotep III, father of Akhenaten. Amenhotep was worshipped as a god many centuries after his death, and in life was regarded as a living incarnation of the sun. I drew him in dark conte-crayon with a little bit of charcoal to add dimension. I especially enjoyed drawing the eyes and lips.

When in Egypt did you visit Amarna, its a dream of mine.
As of now I don't see it happening with the middle eastern situation, I hear that there are some anti-american Islamic groups over there in neighboring villages. Can't we just all get along ?

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Alas, I didn't manage to get to Amarna. I have also heard that it is located in a particularly unfriendly part of Egypt. Sigh . . . It would be nice if we could all get along, wouldn't it?"

This drawing is incredible! His eyes stare at you, with almost a twinkle; and that smirk of his is so mysterious! It is as if he knows some taunting secret that we will never know! Amazing art.

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Thanks, Andrea! Amenhotep often had that intriguing little smile in his ancient portraits. He was the Mona Lisa of the 1400s BCE. 2"

I absolutely love this pic. In fact, I love anything Egyptian. This is so well done, and a lot of people tend to overlook the historical figures that made up Egypt's culture, and who they truly were. I'm starting a tour...would you mind if I put this on it?

:-) Megaera Callisto Lorenz replies: "Thank you! I'd be delighted if you put it on a tour. "

Stunning. He seems to have a sense of humor in the way you've drawn him. I like that he has character, and don't look like a zombie.

You have made this man look like a black person when infact egyptians, especially royalty look tan caucasions! Only the slave peasants look black. I would know because I am half egyptian! This picture deeply offends me!

Hi I don't think it looks at all like him. I am an archeaologist and got to excavate his tomb. The hiroglyphs showed his face. That's not how he looks. But it's a really nice detailed drawing though.

I love ancient Egypt, and this is brilliant! I love the expression on Amenhotep's face. It is beautiful, I wish I could do that!
